Olay Project 360 - All Ladies Pampering Session at The White Rabbit @ Dempsey

Thanks to Hui Yan I got to attend this nuffnang event as a +1. I thought I didn't get selected cause I didn't write a good post on the previous pampering night event by Nuffnang and Whisper. Wanted to go for this event since I felt it would be great to enjoy a pampering night after one whole busy month. This event is the finale to the series that Olay and Nuffnang has launched on 14 Sept 2011. Called Olay Project 360, each week we watched how the celebrity bloggers and their partners compete against one another in different activities. Tips were also shared on how to combat different skin concern with the experts from Olay and host, Xiaxue. For more information about the series and to view all the videos, please go to

Held at the White Rabbit @ Dempsey, I was pretty excited to visit this charmingly restored chapel turned restaurant. It was even listed in the Time Travel website as one of ten things to do in Singapore.

Okay, I know I shouldn't even post up this photo. It's such a lousy shot of the restaurant but being late and dark, I only took this one quick snap and went in. It's such a fine dining place that as I was approaching the main door, the waiter was already there helping me to pull the door open. Wow indeed.

The event was not held at the bustling restaurant but at the garden bar outside. As usual for all Nuffnang event, need to register first at the Nuffnang registration counter. A green band to identify ourselves and for the serving of free flow drinks. Main guest also got a goodie bag full of Olay products.

After securing a seat and gotten our drinks, it's own time own target to explore the place and photo taking time. Heehee.

Tumble down the mysterious rabbit hole to find a white rabbit that has turned into stone!

Anti-stress Indian head, neck and shoulder massage! Yes, I need it badly. Very relaxing but the loud music in the background defeats the main purpose. If not I might just fall asleep. While I was closing my eyes and enjoying the massage, I got my friend to help me take photos too.

A happy and satisfied Val with her hand massage and paraffin. I didn't try this as I tried before at the previous pampering session.

Hui Yan at the Heat Compress massage station. I've tried this too. Helps to relieve tension as the heat compress is made from herbal ingredients. I can feel the strong smell of ginger. I can feel sharp pain when the therapist place the hot compress on certain parts of my shoulder. Not sure is those point was affected or simply cause the thing was too hot it was burning pain.

The wide ranges of Olay products! Too bad it was quite dark and can't really see which is which and there's nobody there to guide us. Although we were free to try them, not many people have any idea which one to try. They should have somebody stationed here. In fact, when I was standing there, two ladies came up to ask me questions but later they realised I'm just a guest here too.

Photos taken with Valerie Lim. Her blog - http://dweam.com/ and she was crowned Miss Singapore Universe 2011! She was super tall can, standing at 1.79m, makes me felt so short that no heels can help.

Self-take photo with Val.  A little bit too dark.

Edited with a frame. Looks like F1 racing flag huh?! hehe.

Where does this leads to?

An empty white swing like this at night looks spooky. *Pray hard it don't start swinging by itself*

The stars, the celebrities bloggers and announcing the final winner for the Olay project 360.

Pass by the inside of the restaurant as we went out.

One group bloggers photo! Yay! Took home some decorative materials and shall do up the photo frame Hui Yan gave me and put this photo inside. Hehe. I've got halo light above my head. I'm such an angel ~~ ^^V Enjoyed myself and we walked out through a short cut passing through Au petit Salut. Quite an inconvenient place without transport to go out but luckily once out, I've got a direct bus home.

Fright Night Movie at The Cathay

IMG_3387

Thanks to Nuffnang for this pair of movie tickets which I watched with Missy T.
A remake of the same title movie in 1985, Fright Night is nothing like your usual horror movie.

Setting is in the suburb of Las Vegas where all the houses look exactly the same, it created a mystery atmosphere of who's living inside.

Ed: "I really hate to be the one to tell you this but that guy, your neighbour?"
Charley: "Jerry?"
Ed: "Yeah, he's a vampire."
Charley: "That is a terrible vampire name. Jerry?"

Jerry sounds like a nice and normal name, with his laid back attitude and cool looks, nobody would have thought that he's actually a blood sucking vampire by night who will morphed into a horrible looking monster when he's in desperate need of blood.

Some of the interesting mythology about vampires that were further shown in the movie:

1. A vampire reflection will not be shown in the mirrors or videos. They would just appear as non-existence.
2. A vampire could not enter an occupied house unless he was invited to do so. Thus, there was a scene showing Jerry wanting to enter Charley's house by giving a reason of wanting to borrow some beers. Charley who is already suspicious of Jerry's identity kept him at bay though.
3. Stake through the heart is the most common known way of exterminating a vampire but in the movie it didn't worked. It is explained that the person needs faith for crosses to be effective. Charley doesn't really believe in religion so the cross caught fire when Jerry touches it. It would have worked it a true believer held it. So is it about time that we better start having a religion?
4. Vampires are afraid of the sunlight. They would turned into ash under the sunlight as seen in the movie.

Missy T and I both find this movie more entertaining and funny rather than scary. I am more frighten by the loud sound effect than the visual effect while she was laughing out loud in most of the scenes. A lot of action packed scenes too especially in the scenes whereby Charley fought with Ed. There's even one part of which shows Ed's hand got chopped off by the door and his hand was still wriggling inside the room. LOL. Missy T later commented that they should be more substance to the story line like why Jerry keep targeting at Charley's family? Can't he just go to other's houses instead of having to burn the house down and chase them off in the car chase. I would just rate this a 2.5/5 stars for this movie.

Singapore's First Holographic Fashion Show at 313 @ Somerset

Fashion show of the 21st century no longer requires real models to catwalk down the stage. Instead, with the advancement in technology, all we need is a specially constructed black box plus some technology input and a deejay to play some loud music and we'll get to watch a Holographic Fashion Show!

I'm just starting my own "Fashion Show" with the cute graffiti on the wall.

Located along 313@Somerset's Discovery Walk at Level 1 from 16 to 25 September is the showcase of a three-dimensional image of the model inside a black box. This holographic model will change her outfits and accessories continuously from 10 am to 11pm daily

This Holographic Fashion Show, which is Singapore's first time incorporating technology with fashion is just one of the highlight of 313@Somerset's six week FASHION+ Campaign that engage and excite shoppers with a different way of presenting the latest items from the mall.

Also called FASHION+REVEAL under the campaign, this type of display not only save cost and space, it also attracts curious passer-by to stop and look. The best thing is, the "model" do not need to rest. The show can go on and on. Haha. Below is a video that I took of how the holographic model changes her outfit.

Taking a break and snack on some Tako while taking more photos of the outfits at Forever 21.

Another highlight of the FASHION+ campaign is the FASHION+DISPLAYS that showcase trendy matching outfits paired with accessories, bags, shoes and more. A good news for us, the shoppers is that we get to enjoy a 30% discount on all the items featured on the displays while OCBC cardmembers get an additional 5% more. It's such a convenient way to shop. Everything is already perfectly matched together. We no longer need to have the problem of buying one blouse but not knowing what skirt can match it or vice verse.

Let's see if I can find anything suitable.

The last outfit changing that I watched before going home. I'm really curious on how it works that the model looks so real but a bit disappointed that it's only one screen. How about making a long tunnel of many different holographic models changing outfits? That probably needs much higher budget to build.

My Top 3 Favourite Mooncakes for 2011

#1 : The tradition lotus seed paste mooncake from The Ritz Carlton. Comes with a box that looks like a treasure box. the two square mooncakes contain the yolk while the round one is pure lotus. The lotus seed paste is so smooth and not too sweet. My whole family loves it.

#2 : Snow Skin Black Durian Mooncake from Home's Favourite. A melt-in-the-mouth experience. Highly recommended to me. Love it. It's worth the money. Read my review here

#3 : Crispy Skin Yam Mooncake from Long Wang. Brought to the office by CL. This is so special, it's my first time eating mooncakes that is neither the traditional type nor the snow skin type but it's crispy skin. Like curry puffs! LOL. The yam inside is so nice, I can smell it when the box is opened.

Danice and Jason Wedding Dinner at Peony Jade Restaurant

Congratulation to Danice and Jason !

This is the second wedding dinner I'm attending this year. I love their wedding invitation card which is so innovative. In the English context, when the couple ties the knot, it's just known as getting married and it applies to both the man and the woman. However, in the Chinese context there's actually two different words to represent the man and woman. For the man, he has to "娶" the woman he loves to be his wife and the woman, she has to "嫁" to the man she loves. So this wedding invitation has this two characters and depending on which side of the couple's friend they are sending the invitation to, they just fold it to their preference. I must say Chinese is actually a very interesting language, don't you think so?

Their wedding dinner was held at Peony Jade Restaurant at Clark Quay. Met up with a common friend and we both set off to find this restaurant. As it was the mid-autumn, we got to admire the mid-autumn lights-up at the Singapore River too. (I shall published the photos in my next post) Not very familiar with Clark Quay area so we really walked one big round before we spotted the restaurant name at the top of the second floor window panel.

Everything also must take photo for memory. One of the ladies sitting there mumbled something like "no need to take photos la". I felt like saying, "why not leh? The box so cute what? And I must show my readers that I'm the friend of the female side ma.-_-." But I just keep quiet, quickly snap a photo and go. Maybe only people who blogged will understand this. We just loves to take photos of everything we see. Snap snap here, snap snap there. My whole computer memory space are pretty much used up by all the photos taken so far.

Even the stairs also must take can, only during wedding will there be rose petals on the stairs ma.

A very nice, traditional Cheongsam hanging on the wall. I hope I can wear one on my wedding too. My ideal type is this sweet pink cheongsam. So nice~ Only worries is that I don't have the figure nor the height to wear it. Sigh, why didn't I jump more when I was younger?

Assigned to table number 13. XP and I was the earliest to reach. The invitation card say 7pm and we really reach at 7pm. So we sit there, chit-chat and surveyed the surrounding before the actual dinner starts about one hour+ later.

The dishes we will be having. Yummy!

 The hosts of the night.

Yay! Finally the time for the groom and bride to march in. Wow. I think the march in song is one of my favourite song too - "I've Finally Found Someone."

After awhile, the whole restaurant went dark with only the candlelight lighting up the restaurant. Yes, it's time to serve in the Cold Dish! The restaurant was filled with some Chinese instrumental music and it's the waiters and waitresses turn to march in. After marching in, and the light was turned on again, they still cannot put the dish down yet, they need to stand performed abit by changing position first before they finally set the dish down.

After about three dishes served, it's time for a short video of how the groom got his wife in the morning. There's a part which I find quite cute and it's when all the sisters (Jie Meis) of the bride shouted, "If you want the bride, make sure the money is right!" Referring to the ang bao money that usually the groom have to give to the sisters before he can enters the bride's house. To this, the groom and his brothers (Xiong Dis) replied back with, "We don't have the money for the bride, but we can give you a free ride!" Hahaha. So cute. The three games that the groom and his brother have to play before he can meet his wife is also rather interesting. First is money art, to use the money to form I Love You. Next is the most common eating of sour, sweet, bitter, spicy food. This symbolize that you have to go through this four stages of life with your other half. Lastly is for him to shout "I Love You" in 8 different languages. Interesting video. So it's really not easy to plan for a wedding.

After the video is the second appearance of the blissful couple. Danice looked so pretty in this evening dress that suits her well. After that is the usual going round tables by tables to toast and take photos time.

The scrumptious 8 course meal we had and the review that I wrote. I sincerely wished that their love be endless like the circle of their wedding rings.
