Diners may also do the traditional Lo Hei with a twist with Jack's Place's unique Harvest Toss Seafood Salad (made up of a medley of seafood) or the Fortune Toss Abalone Salad as part of the festive celebration!

Food Tasting at Jack's Place (Bras Basah Complex) outlet

Together with some of the media and influencers friends, we were invited to do a food tasting at Jack's Place, Bras Basah Complex outlet. As it was during lunch time, I went down to the venue from my office which is just two bus stops away.

We went over to the long table to start off the session with the traditional tossing of the Lo Hei for prosperity and abundance. The Harvest Toss Seafood Salad was really refreshing and I could taste fruits like Mango, Pomelo and Pineapple. Roasted Sesame Dressing was used instead of the usual Plum Sauce. The flavour blends well overall.

After the tossing of Lo Hei, we went back to our individual table for the Abundance Set Lunch starting off with the Fish Maw & White Fungus Chicken Broth. It feels kind of interesting to be having this super Chinese style soup instead of the usual mushroom soup at Jack's Place. The soup is really tasty and good.

For my main course, I had the Chicken with Pineapple Marmalade and Yam Basket with Scallop. The Chicken Meat was tender and well seasoned with the sauce. The concept of 'East meets West' is well displayed in this dish with the yam and scallop at the sides.

We ended the meal with a slice of osmanthus sponge cake which was nicely decorated with a firecracker imaged on an edible chocolate. Super festive!

Not to be missed during the festive seasons are the Lunar New Year Cookies and Cakes. Traditional ingredients are used for their Hainanese Kaya Roll, Nanyang Kopi Roll, Rainbow Kueh Lapis and the Lychee Pineapple Tarts.

We got to try some of the Lunar New Year Cookies and Cakes too. I quite like the Lychee Pineapple Tarts which is also their popular items. It's more to the sweet side as the Lychee taste is quite strong. For the cookies, they are the melt-in-your mouth kind. We also tried the Rainbow Kueh Lapis which taste like the normal Kueh Lapis but I find it very unique and makes a great gift. Would have got a box but it was not available at the outlet on the day we went.

[Food] Delicious Japanese Pork Fair - Imakatsu + Yakiniku Heijoen

Delicious Japanese Pork Fair campaign was launch on 1st February by Delicious Japan SG. Under this campaign, 6 participating restaurants will each have their own special campaign menu for 1 particular dish that uses only premium Japanese Pork from Hokkaido, Kumamoto and Kagoshima. Diners get to enjoy this dish at a special price just by completing a simple survey online by scanning a QR code found at the restaurant. I've made it to 2 of the participating restaurants on two different days with my friends and I must say I'm super impressed with the quality and taste of the pork.

One of the special features of Japanese Pork is that the production and taste is unique to their own producer and region. With strict quality control, Japan is able to produce over 1.26 million tons of safe and high-quality pork every year making Japanese Pork one of Japan's world-class flavours and quality food.

Imakatsu - Guoco Tower
Kurobuta Pork Katsu Set (130g) ($20, U.P. $30)

Had my dinner here with Kenny and Ck on the first day of the campaign, as it was dinner time, there's not much of a crowd in the CBD area. I love how tender and juicy the Pork Katsu is. The fresh bowl of salad is also super addictive especially after mixing in the sesame sauce.

Yakiniku Heijoen - 100AM Mall
Hokkaido PORK Don Set (Belly) ($9.90++, U.P. $15.90++)

Came here for a mid-week lunch with Ck. The Hokkaido Pork was thinly sliced and comes in a generous serving. I really must gives a two thumbs up to the service here. We were served a glass of cold water when we arrived and a cup of hot green tea when we finished our meal. This is despite we only ordered this special set and didn't even ordered any drinks. They served us the drinks without any extra charges! Was really a very pleasant surprise, I guess I will be back again soon. Thank you so much!

Do note that this campaign ends on different dates for each restaurant and there is also a limited serving daily for the promotion dish per day. It is advisable to call up the restaurant before hand to check with them first before going down.

[Saturday at Serangoon] Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery + Platform 1094

Bee Cheng Hiang Grillery located at Serangoon road is a pretty interesting place to visit. Customers can shop for bak kwa,  gifting hampers and also order food and drinks to enjoy in their dine-in bistro area. There is even a wine cellar and bar area right inside this 2,000 square feet store!

Thanks Jessie for entertaining my girl and taking so many photos of her

When Meryl suggested to have our lunch meet-up here, I was thinking in my mind why would anyone wants to eat bak kwa for lunch but I was quickly assured that they served decent food as she has been there before and she even sent us photos of the menu to clear my doubts.

We sure had an interesting experience with their dishes as they tried to incorporate Bak Kwa into most of their dishes. Here's what we had:

Bakkwa Spring Roll - $9

Spring roll with shredded vegetables and some bakkwa bites served with mayonnaise.

Seafood Aglio Olio - $24

Spaghetti with Tiger prawns, scallops, chilli padi and garlic. Regretted ordering this dish as it's really nothing special. Kind of blend and portion is small too.

DIY Slider (Pork) - $14

This deconstructed version of slider comes with mini burger buns, caramelised onions, quail eggs, sunny side up, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, housemade sambal mayonnaise and we choose pork coin-shaped bakkwa. I actually ate them separately and didn't reconstruct it properly in shape but it was nice.

Capsicum & Gourmet Bakkwa Pizza - $15

Just three ingredients in this pizza, gooey cheese, capsicum and gourmet bakkwa and that's enough to make this pizza delicious.

Truffled Mushroom Salad - $16

This is a mushroom dish, loving the crispy fried enoki and warm sous vide egg. Inside contains oyster mushroom, button mushroom and sliced beef bakkwa.

Gourmet Aglio Olio - $16

Ok, this taste so much better compared to my seafood Aglio Olio. Spaghetti with gourmet bakkwa (pork belly), chilli padi, garlic. Yummy.

Grilled Chicken with Alfalfa - $18

This is my favourite dish of the day. The grilled chicken is tender and goes very well together with alfalfa sprouts and roasted potatoes. Drizzled with mushroom sauce.

We were pleasantly surprised to be served with some desserts which is on the house. Swiss roll with cream and grilled minced pork bakkwa bits and pork floss. Sweet and savoury at the same time.

The food, the posh setting and the accompany is simply awesome. Prices stated is already inclusive of GST and they don't charge service charge. Thanks Meryl for using your vouchers to offset the total cost of the meal and for introducing this place to us too. Here's a group photo of the 5 of us.

P.S. This restaurant is on eatigo too, so just make sure you reserve to visit with eatigo to enjoy some discounts  if you do not have the vouchers. Vouchers cannot be used on top of the eatigo reservation.

After our lunch, we went on to visit the Platform 1094 since we are in the vicinity, this is my family's second time visiting this magical Harry Potter themed cafe. The cafe was full and we didn't made any reservation but we stayed around to take some photos outside and it was a blessing when the staff came out to inform us that there is seats available as a group has just left.

Was so tempted to get the dessert tray set but was pretty full from lunch thus we just ordered some drinks and snacks to munch on.

- Butterscotch
- Platform's Polyjuice Brew
- Felix's Euphoric Liquid
- Spam Fries

This is one cafe that we will definitely be back again. Would love to order their pretty cakes next time.

Thankful to my two lovely friends who always prepare a little treat for my girl whenever we meet up. It's great to go food hunting with them and it's always a non-stop eating day whenever I'm out with them. Cheers to more new places to visit together.

XOXO

[SATURDAY AT Jem®] Lunch at Pepper Lunch + CHICHA San Chen

It's 15 Years of Sizzling Goodness for Pepper Lunch and they've came up with an online game as well as an event to reward their dearest fans. Happened to get to know this from Partipost.

Are you READY, STEADY? - SPOT THE DIFFERENCE GAME

For this game, one simply have to find all 15 differences within the time limit to stand a chance to win S$50 Pepper Lunch Vouchers! Both Hui Lin and I tried this game on our mobile and 14 was the maximum score we could get. Even with that, we still got a reward - Free Mashed Potato Side Dish & Soft Drink, redeemable with order of any main course at the Pepper Lunch Restaurants. Just to share, I tried playing this game online again on my laptop and I could quite easily get the 15/15 score! Click on this link to launch the game. Since we got this reward, we arranged to meet up for lunch at the nearest Pepper Lunch restaurant at Jem.

READY, STEADY, UNLOCK! EVENT

This is actually my first time dining in at this Pepper Lunch Restaurant outlet. We queued up to order and pay for our food first before we entered the restaurant to find our seat.

For this event, every main dish purchased will receive 1 sticker and 1 sticker card will be issued per transaction. My family ordered 3 main dishes and thus we received 3 stickers to be pasted on our sticker card. We just need 5 more stickers to complete the sticker card with 8 stickers by 30 September 2020.

After completion, one can pre-register the game card online to secure a chance to win big prizes such as iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy S20 and more at their Live Virtual Unlock Event happe
ning on 19 September and 3 October. The unlock chances is limited to the first 300 successful submission only. We felt that it's faster if we accumulate our stickers, thus I've passed the 3 stickers to my friend to continue the sticker card.

Here's what we ordered for our lunch:

For him: Jumbo Beef Pepper Rice. The before and after cooked photo.

For me: Cheesy Omelette with Chicken (Creamy Brown Sauce). This photo was taken by my Little Missy who was sitting opposite me. She took a few shots and this last shot was really decent and nice. Secretly training her from young to be my photographer next time! Heehee.

For her: Chicken and Cheese Sausage Pasta, she really loves the cheese sausage.

It was overall a satisfying and good meal. I think the last I had pepper lunch was at their express outlet in Clementi Food Fare which was so long ago.

After lunch, I went to collect my shopback deal for CHICHA San Chen. This was also my first time trying out their bubble tea as I saw many good feedbacks from my friends and was curious.

What is so unique about them is probably this hot tea dispenser machine and from what I gathered, they had about 5 - 6 staff at this outlet. An indication that business is very good here.

They even won this Superior Taste Award in 2019! High expectation. I placed my order and I was a bit shocked that there was like 30+ number in front of me!! Oh my gosh.

This is what I got - Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar Boba at S$4.50 (U.P. S$5) after a good long 30 minutes wait! The boba was still warm for the first few sip. Regretted not buying more cups and buying their tea series since have to wait so long. Fresh milk with brown sugar boba taste so so only and not worth the long wait. Hope they have other deals soon, would like to try their Dong Ding tea series too.
