As Singapore transit into Phase 2, so is the option for dining in. This is one activity which I missed the most during circuit breaker time when we were not allowed to eat outside at all. With this transition in place, the Spice Brasserie at PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road had also gotten a makeover and had reopened for diners to dine-in from 20 July 2020.

Asian Street Food Weekend A La Carte Buffet

During the downtime period, the culinary team at Spice Brasserie has taken the advantage to refresh the signature Asian Street Food spread. Savour some of the most popular Asian street dishes from the region, namely Asia - Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Vietnam and of course Singapore in an a la carte buffet style setting.

I'm so glad to be invited with my family to check out the newly renovated Spice Brasserie and their all-new buffet concept. Upon reaching, the first thing I noticed was the new signboard that has gotten a new face-lift as well. Definitely looks more classy just like the whole restaurant with the gold font in black background. The whole restaurant also looks neater then before with just one main live cooking station.

As per the latest Government advisory, each table can only sit up to five people and so the seating arrangement at Spice Brasserie have also been redesigned to ensure appropriate safe distancing between tables and seats per table.

To ensure that diners can feast to their hearts' content with a peace of mind, a new ordering system has also been implemented. Instead of diners going around to get their food, now a piece of ordering chit will be provided and diners just need to indicate the quantity they want on the ordering chit and submit it to the restaurant servers. After that, diners just need to sit back and relax while waiting for the food to be prepared and served to the table.

Although I love walking around to explore the different stations and watch the chef in action during a buffet setting, these enhanced safety measures makes me feel more at ease due to the current pandemic situation. I had more time to take photos at my seat too.

These are the recommended highlights of food that we tried for the night. They were very thoughtful to give my girl a separate burger which she really enjoyed.

COLD FAVOURITES

Cold Seafood Platter was the first dish that was served. They included various items like shells, prawns, lobsters and sashimi which was very fresh and delicious. The chef made an effort to plate the dish nicely too.

CHARCOAL GRILL

Charcoal Grill consist of their Signature BBQ Black Char Siew, Signature Crispy Pork Roll, Seawater Grilled Barramundi, Garlic Pepper Prawn, Australian Beef Rib Finger, Grilled Carrot Cake and Roasted Honey Pineapple. My favourite was the Garlic Pepper Prawn, BBQ Black Char Siew, Grilled Carrot Cake and Roasted Honey Pineapple while my hubby loves all of them.

RICE AND NOODLES

Scallion Oil Noodles that looks simple and plain but taste so delicious.

TANDOOR STATION
My girl is a big fan of the Garlic Naan

Assorted Naan, Fish Goan Curry and Butter Chicken. The garlic naan with the butter chicken was especially addictive.

ON THE GRIDDLE

By the time, this Ramly Style Chicken Burger was served, we were like quite full already. I love how thick and filling the burger is.

HOT FAVOURITES
CHILLI CRAB

The hot favourites dishes includes the Black Pepper Slipper Lobster and Chilli Crab with Mantou. I felt that it's very unique to find crushed peanuts in the chilli crab sauce.

CLAYPOT

After all the heavy dishes, this is a comfort food. Pipping hot Charcoal Broken Rice Claypot Porridge with Seafood. It's almost like a soup dish and with all the seafood, the soup is very tasty and flavourful.

DESSERT

We had the Cempedak Crumble Cake, Durian Pengat with Sticky Rice and Teppanyaki Ice Cream of the Day to end the meal.

Mousse Cakes and Chocolate Bomb
Ying Yang Muah Chee with Peanut and Black Sesame

You know how they say desserts goes to another stomach? Thus, we request to try for the rest of the desserts too which are not on our menu list. The Muah Chee which is a delectable street snack commonly found at our local night market aka pasar malam is so soft and nice.

Yummy desserts to complete our meal

My family and I had such a great dining experience, very thankful to the arrangement by the staff from Spice Brasserie.

[BUFFET] Oh Crab, It's Back! Weekend Seafood Buffet at Spice Brasserie, PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road

Seafood lovers rejoice as Spice Brasserie at PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road brought back their beloved all-you-can-eat weekend seafood buffet and it's only available for a limited period of time. The latest buffet menu had been expanded to include even more seafood, making it bigger and better. Expect to find the freshest catches such as Singapore's ever popular flavoured crab dishes, scallops, slipper lobster, seabass, prawns and more.

Being a crab lover, I was overjoyed to start the month of June and also to celebrate my birthday by having this seafood buffet feast together with my family.

Upon arrival, we were brought to a specially prepared dining area where they have set up another buffet line featuring just the main highlights of the buffet which were the crabs prepared in different flavours like Salted Egg, Black Pepper and the iconic Chilli with the fried mantou as well as the Oatmeal Prawns with Curry Leaves. These dishes were so popular that they decided to prepare extra portion in order for us to get a good photo of them before they were snapped up in no time outside.

During the a short guided tour around the main buffet area, we were introduced to the different stations available in the main buffet area. I love how spacious and cosy the whole place was. There were also some partially enclosed seating areas for those who prefers to eat their meals in some sort of privacy while overlooking the window outside. I fell in love with this zen atmosphere and even Rena also kept running out to this place during the whole dinner.

We began our meal by having some Japanese sushi and cold soba. Beside the Japanese counter, there was an ensemble of seafood on ice with selections like the Whole Sea Whelk, Black Mussel, Marinated Stone Crab Claw, Seasoned Jelly Fish, Baby Lobster, Scallops on Shell, Marinated Clams, and more. Check out the variety of Salmon, Tuna, Hamachi and Swordfish sashimi!

At the Indian counter, one can find Indian cuisine like Naan, Aloo Gobi and Biryani Rice. A wise choice as this hotel is located near Little India.

On top of that, we also tried some of the mouth-watering hot dishes such as the Slow Roast Beef with Gravy, Fried Whole Sea Bass in Hong Kong Style and XO Seafood Bee Hoon, just to name a few.

At the Live station, the chef was preparing piping hot Oyster Omelette, Cuttlefish Kang Kong Bee Hoon and Yong Tau Foo. After selecting some ingredients to put in, the Yong Tau Foo Soup is ready to be served. Mix it with some rice and that's dinner for Rena!

In between, I also pick up and ate a few satay sticks while I was walking around to get food from the different buffet counters. Hehe. Can't stop eating!

The only station that I didn't try was their fried food and crackers. There's really a great varieties of the crackers but I have decided to save my stomach space for the crabs!

We decided to leave the crabs as the last item to eat as we know we will get our hands messy and dirty. The sequence that we ate our crab are chili crab, salted egg yolk crab and the black pepper crab and that would not disappoint. My favourite part of the crab is the pincer and hubby got that for me!

The Chili Crab sauce goes well with the fried mantou, it's a dish that all Singaporeans were custom to and enjoy eating.

Both my husband and my favourite of the three was the Salted Egg Yolk Crab, the creamy salted egg yolk sauce was not too overpowering and leave us wanting for more after eating the succulent crab meat. Salted egg yolk dishes were either so thick that one would get sick if consumed too much but not this one at Spice Brasserie.

We leave the fiery Black Pepper Crab the last to taste. The peppery taste was strong but not too overwhelming to cover the sweetness of the crab's flesh. It was so good, I wished I could have eaten more!

After all that eating, we thought it's time to customize our drinks at the DIY mocktail bar. This is actually a debut at Spice Brasserie to bring diners free-flow of refreshing DIY mocktails. First, we mix in the flavoured premium syrups for that we choose Apple and Lychee and then we add in the soda water before topping it off with some condiments like cherries, lychee or sour plum. Viola, our personal concoction is done! Thumbs up for this interesting concept.

We rounded up our meal with the assortment of desserts available. We had the Durian Pengat with Sticky Rice, Pulut Hitam, Cheng Teng, cakes, ice cream as well as fruits.

It was really a great meal where my family and I enjoyed eating together. As the saying goes, 'the family that eats together, stays together.' The spread of variety of food they have is just nice for us. A big thanks to Fion for the invite and also Executive Chef Robert Chan and his culinary team at Spice Brasserie for putting together Singapore's favourite seafood dishes!

Running for a period of time from 17 May to 16 August 2019, do note that this weekend seafood buffet is only available for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays and dinner on Friday to Sundays.

Priced at S$48 per adult and S$24 per child for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays , and S$58 per adult and S$29 per child for dinner on Fridays to Sundays I think this is definitely worth the money. *Prices not applicable for Father's Day Lunch on Sunday, 16 June.

So since it's the school holiday now, why not bring gather the whole family to make this 'Oh Crab, it's back' buffet as one of the weekend activities. At the same time, spend some quiet and quality feasting time while you are there!
