[STAY HOME] OurPasar Essentials - Online Halal Grocer

Cheers and Happy New Year my readers!

Although Singapore had transited to Phase 3 not long ago, a lot of us are still spending more time at home to avoid the crowds. Due to the pandemic, a lot of the business owners had adopted online services to cater for consumer like myself. Online shopping had been super convenient as it saved me the hassle of leaving the house, waiting in the queue and carrying back the heavy groceries from the supermarket or the wet market.

I was recently introduced to OurPasar, an online halal grocer that believes in providing fresh and quality products coupled with great service and price. A visit to their website and one will be able to find the following items available for purchase.

- Meat & Poultry: Premium/Fresh/Frozen Meat
- Seafood: Live/Fresh/Frozen Seafood
- Vegetable: Fresh/Frozen Vegetables and Fresh Fruit
- Pantry: Condiments, Sauces, Paste, Dried Goods, Canned Food, Drinks
- Ready To Cook
- Dairy & Eggs

A 1 kg worth of Sirloin Steak was arranged for me on a Sunday. Unfortunately, my girl had her art class so nobody was at home to receive it. However, I was assured when the driver had informed me that he would leave the Sirloin Steak at the doorstep which was well packed and could last at least for about 6 hours so I was able to carry on my activity outside without worry.

True enough, when we were back, we found a big styrofoam box containing the frozen steak packed in a clear bag, well submerged in ice. The steak was still kept frozen even after a few hours has passed. The 1 kg sirloin steak was already pre-cut to 5 pieces which makes it so much easier for cooking later on. Great job for the well packaging and smooth delivery!

The packaging had a clear label on the production and expiry date. Our steak was packed one day before delivery and can be kept frozen for one year. OurPasar's aim to ensure sustained quality and freshness of the produce from farm to table was well met with satisfactory results.

Now, it's time for Chef Ryden to show off his cooking skill. After thawing, he marinated the meat with Black Pepper and Garlic Salt.

While waiting for the seasoning to set, he prepared the rest of the ingredients to go with the first slice of beef such as broccoli, mushroom with cheese and corn. Once the oven was preheated and the ingredients were all prepared, he put everything on a single tray and baked them together.

For the second slice of beef, he decided to pan fry it with the "leftover" mushrooms, garlic and butter.

These were the final results! Looks fantastic and taste great too just that the cooking time could be shorter as he wanted it to get medium but got well done instead.

As part of their #mysirloinisbetterthanyours campaign, OurPasar is running a promotion for their sirloin meat whereby 1 kg of sirloin cost only $15/kg! When I told hubby the price he was just as surprised to find out.

Beside that, they also have other promotions:

FREECHIX - free whole chicken with minimum spend of $65
FREEBSTEAK - free batang steak with minimum spend of $95
FREESALMON - free salmon with minimum spend of $180

Do note there is no minimum order but there will be a $10 islandwide delivery charge for orders below $60. Orders above $60 will get to enjoy free delivery!

Simply create an account using my referral link https://www.ourpasar.com/?s=01534001 or key in 01534001 under sponsor code during registration to get a $2 cash voucher upon registration that you can use it immediately. So go ahead, create your online account with OurPasar and cart out now!

P.S. Thanks OurPasar for the collaboration and thankful to hubby who did all the hard work by himself from preparation to cooking to plating and washing! He cook, I eat. Hehe.

[Recipe] Marmite4UMarmite4Me : Hearty Dish For the Young , Grown up and Elderly

Welcome to the World of Marmite! Most of us should have heard of and eaten before food prepared or cooked with Marmite but not many would have known the history of Marmite.

Marmite has a strong heritage in history. In fact, it was invented by a German scientist, Justus Liebig in the late 19th Century. He accidentally discovered that the useless leftover brewer's yeast could be concentrated, bottled and eaten. It was first made edible and sold to the British public over 100 years ago.

Marmite is a French term for a large covered earthenware or metal cooking pot which the yeast extract was supplied in originally. The image of this pot has since been used as a logo for the label. Now, Marmite is sold in the bulbous glass jars that we are all so familiar with today.

Beside being 100% Vegetarian, Marmite is also Halal certified. Rich in Vitamin B, Marmite plays a useful part in many people's diet. It is also a rich source of folic acid, that many women of child-bearing age are found to be deficient of. The brand has successfully established itself as a healthy spread for children. In fact, I remember my mum mixing this in plain porridge to make it flavourful and nutritious. It can also be as simple as adding hot water to make marmite soup but today I'm going to share a more complex recipe of cooking Marmite Chicken Wing

MARMITE CHICKEN WING

- 400g Mid Wings, cleaned
- 50g Whole Garlic, peeled & quick fry
- 50g Whole Shallot, peeled & quick fry

- 40ml Vegetable Oil

Seasoning:

- 1/2 tbsp Marmite Sauce
- 1 tbsp Hot Bean Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sesame Oil
- 60 ml water

Method of Preparation:

1. Mixed all seasoning together and set aside.
2. Pre sear chicken wings for few minutes (half cooked)
3. Heat up pan, add oil and half cooked chicken wings
4. Add seasoning sauce mixture and stir till seasoning reduce about 5 minutes
5. Add garlic, shalot, chili and stir
6. Add spring onion and the dish is ready to be served

Marmite Chicken Wings ready to be served! Looks good!

Pokemon Go is such a hype now. I just find it very cute to take photos with. Hehe. Happy 51st Birthday, Singapore!

[iChef] Restaurant-Grade Ingredients for Home Cooking

This Christmas, why not make it a little bit more special by preparing a Japanese-themed Christmas feast right in the comfort of your home.

iChef, the brainchild of Suki Group just unveiled its second retail store at The Cathay. One of Singapore online grocery sellers, iChef was listed in Qoo10 in 2012. The brand has grown from strength to strength since then.

Customers is able to purchase premium-grade ingredients that are used at popular restaurants in this store. These ingredients are imported from countries around the world including Japan, Argentina and Norway.

iChef has launched a brand-new menu just in time for Christmas with affordable and special Christmas must-haves. Price starting from just S$98, one can choose from the three exquisite hampers for Christmas feasts : Chicken (Christmas Carol Hamper); Sashimi (Winter Warmer Hamper); Chicken / Seafood editions (Festive Indulgence Hamper) and be amazed by the restaurant grade selection of ingredients they provide.

Chicken Hamper

You have a choice of two chicken delights. Get the Shrimp Paste Chicken and deep fry it until it turns golden-brown. The marinade follows a secret recipe. Go with the Cajun Chicken Chop for an exotic taste or Lemongrass Chicken for a familiar homely flavour. The Panko Chicken or Chicken Karaage will prove to be a hit as well. The hamper comes with Potato Croquette, Wagyu Beef and choice of Durian Puffs or Eclairs.

Sashimi Hamper

Relish the bold flavours of the sea with this hamper. The Snow Crabs are imported from Greenland. The Argentina Deep Prawns are bound to excite with their succulence and moist textures. The Salmon Belly is rich in omega-3 and takes only a few minutes of defrosting before it can be enjoyed. Other items in this hamper include Salmon Sashimi, Sashimi Oyster, Premium Ikura and choice of Durian Puffs or Eclairs.

Chicken/Seafood Hamper

Get the best of both worlds with this hamper. Add a touch of elegance to your feast with the Premium Ikura: salmon fish roes imported from Japan. The irresistible Panko Chicken boasts a crispy exterior and juicy inside. Have Takoyaki, Osaka's most popular street snack, right at home. The Raw White Shrimps can be prepared in any culinary style you like: baked, grilled or steamed. The hamper also comes with Wagyu Beef, Raw Scallop and Snow Crab Leg Meat.

I went down to their retail store at The Cathay and watched a live cooking demo guided by Chef Pang who came from Taiwan and have worked in China. He used to cook for the president.

The first dish that the lady prepared under the guidance of Chef Pang. Fresh prawns can be bought at iChef.

Prepared by the chef himself.

We were served with some of the delicacy during the event launch and I was really satisfied with what I ate.

Salmon & Ikura Salad. Fresh and healthy, I love the presentation of this dish.

The salmon used for their sashimi is of the most premium grade. Directly flown in from Norway via DHL Express everyday, the salmon is cleaned, descaled and sliced by their professionally trained staff to ensure the highest standard of freshness and quality. Since it is processed in-house, they are able to sell it at a more affordable price.

Ikura, or salmon roe is a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Despite it being frozen, it is still just as fresh and delicious when thawed. Their Premium Ikura is imported from Japan and which is already seasoned with Shoyu, Japanese soy sauce and mirin.

Snow crab and cooked prawn. This dish is just amazing. The meat of the snow crab and prawn is so fresh and succulent that one can taste the natural sweetness.

For the snow crab, it's one of iChef star products. The snow crabs are caught from Greenland, boiled and then individually quick frozen (IQF) to ensure the freshness and the quality of the crab.

The Argentina prawns are naturally red in colour. They are wild caught in the deep sea and immediately individually quick frozen (IQF). This means that there are no chemicals injected in the prawns. The argentina prawn have a texture that is similar to the lobsters and can be eaten raw. It is also ideal for barbeques or a quick steaming with light seasonings to bring out the natural flavour.

Aka Ebi Mentai, Salmon Teriyaki and Cream Sauce Scallop. The different sauces used really enhance and make the dish more flavourful.

The special point about their Aka Ebi Mentaiko, also known as Mentaiko Red Shrimp, is the red shrimp itself. When grilled, the combination of the mentaiko with mayonnaise, gives a tangy and charred flavour that is addictive. This is one restaurant grade dish that you can now have in the comfort of your own homes.

Dory Katsu, Oyster Katsu, Ika Karaage and Shrimp Paste Chicken. By the time this dish of fried items were served, I was already super full so only tried the chicken and dory. Not used to the sauce that comes with this dish though. Felt that the sauce is too strong and overpowering.

iChef's signature item is the fragrant shrimp paste chicken. The shrimp paste chicken is made from a special recipe concocted from their own chefs. It is marinated and produced in house and sold in their sister restaurants as well. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the shrimp paste chicken wings can be air fried as well for those who are more health conscious.

And finally, desserts were served.

Cheers to the success for iChef and to our friendship!

Cream Sauce Spaghetti with Chicken Cocktail and Mushroom

Hello!

I've recently found a great interest in cooking. There's something therapeutic about the process of turning the raw and inedible ingredients into something edible. I'm still exploring cooking spaghetti in different sauces.

Today I'm going to share what goes into my Cream Sauce Spaghetti with Chicken Cocktail and Mushroom.

Ingredients

*All ingredients were bought at the NTUC Fairprice. Total cost about $22.

1. Butter
2. Cooking Cream
3. Parmesan Cheese

These three items are used to cook the sauce.

4. Shtiake Mushroom
5. Chicken Cocktail/Sausages (I picked Chicken Cocktail so I don't need to cut)
6. Spaghetti (Not in photo, but that's the main ingredients)

If you realized, I didn't state how much of these ingredients that I put in. That's because I never measured them, I just cook by the feel and estimation.

Preparation

First, poke about three sticks of Spaghetti into one Chicken Cocktail. Sounds easy but I broke a few sticks of Spaghetti already. After that, throw this whole bowl of Spaghetti into a pot of boiling water and let it cook.

While the spaghetti is being boiled, the next step is to prepare the cream sauce. Heat up the saucepan and add about 1/4 of the butter to melt. After that pour in the whole packet of cooking cream, stir constantly until you felt the mixture is right. Lastly add in the Parmesan cheese and diced mushrooms.

After the sauce is done, the spaghetti is also cooked.

Pour the sauce on top

Add some black pepper for the final finishing.

See what I meant by turning raw ingredients into food. Do give it a try. It's really simple and it taste good too. Eat it in the comfort of home.

2014 First Post : Chewy Jas Resolutions + Cook + There's always room for King's Grand Ice Cream

Oh great! I'm getting a bit rusty and lagging in my blog. The last proper post I published here was last year! -_-||| So this being my first post for 2014, let me share with you some of my New Year's resolutions for 2014. I can already feel a positive energy after my unfortunate little accident that happened on the last day of 2013. (If you've followed me on instagram, you'll know what happened)

This year, I hope that I can really stick to my resolutions and not lost track halfway, so I really put in a lot of thoughts before coming up with them and it's a long list which I've saved in my iPhone. Shall just share two of them here.

         1. To keep fit, but not compromising with my eating habits. (Achievable)
This being said, I've got a wonderful colleague who is on par with me (in terms of stamina) so she will be motivating me to achieve this as we set our weekly exercise routine. If I could lose some weight, it will be a bonus to me because if you ask me to eat less, it's too torturous.
2. Get a marathon medal (Achievable)
Provided if no. 1 is on track. =)
My first attempt in cooking with b as mentor turns out better than I expected. Especially love the stir-fry broccoli with fish balls, crab meat and yellow capsicum. So bright and I just feels happy with a sense of satisfaction looking at it. Soup was just Campbell soup and we had too much onions so we just mixed with mushrooms in one dish and egg in the other dish.

Ta-Dah! Chef Chewy Jas's selfie! Wahaha. I'm so proud to say that my OOTD is a $2 pink and flowery apron from Daiso. Last piece some more. For those who say they can't cook, I just want to ask, if I can cook, why can't you? Cooking is really not that hard. Cut and prepare the ingredients, dump them into the wok, stir and flip and whatever until you can smell the aroma of the food, meaning it's ready.

Super love the things I got from Daiso. It's a shop that once you enter, you will never get out empty-handed. Got all these for our dessert later on.

After our "4 course dinner", we were really really bloated. Actually the food we cooked is for about 4 person but ended up only three of us ate. But you know what? They are right in saying there's always room for desserts! Dessert is simply a must have dish to end a meal with a smile. Thanks Dannelia for delivering the ice-cream to my door step.

So what's inside the freezer bag is this tub of King's Grand Crème Brûlée Ice Cream! Crème Brûlée is probably one of the most classic desserts in the world. First documented in 1691 in a French cookbook, Crème Brûlée comprises of a rich and creamy custard base topped with a disc of toffee crust. It's the perfect symphony of sweet and crunchy indulgences and gained traction as one of the most popular desserts served in numerous restaurants.

I really love the velvety goodness of the Crème Brûlée ice cream and there's even caramelized chips for an added crunchy sensation. I decided to add some Chinese New Year goodies - Love Letters to the ice cream for a better presentation.

Nice or not?

My selfie again. I'm using the love letter as a spoon to dip into the ice-cream. Great enjoyment!

King's Grand Ice Cream flavours include:

- Tin Roof Brownie
- Triple Chocolate
- Macadamia
- Cappuccino Chips
- Caramel Almond Fudge
- Tiramisu
- Green Tea (New)
Crème Brûlée (New)

Notice the new elegant-red tub packaging for King's Grand Ice Cream? Incidentally, this seems to resonate well with many this coming Chinese New Year as red is an auspicious colour and symbolizes happiness in the Chinese culture. So let me share a happy news.

Simply buy TWO 1-Litre tubs of any King's Grand Ice Cream at a speical price of S$8.88 (even the price is auspicious) (Usual Price: S$6.75 per tub or S$13.50 for two tubs) and stand a chance to win one of the three S$888 angpows! To participate, send the contest forms and proofs of purchase via:
