Me at the Vikings Village's Closing Event
I was glad to be invited to the Vikings Village's Closing Event and for those who wanted to be there but couldn't make it, let me share some of the interesting exhibits and what we did over there.

Lots of engaging activities for the kids as well as adults
Held in partnership with StarHub, this educational and interactive Vikings Village allows the public to learn more about the medieval and mysterious world of the Vikings, providing an in-depth historical representation to visitors at the village.

INTRODUCTION TO THE VIKINGS
Who were the Vikings?
My first introduction to the Vikings was from the movie, "How to Train Your Dragon" and now I get to know more about them. There's Viking society were divided into three classes namely the THRALLS, KARLS, JARLS and all of them are under the KINGS.

THE VIKINGS COSTUMES

Original costumes of the Vikings
These are the original costumes flown in from the production set in Ireland. Attire worn during battle consists of armour which is made of mostly leather and chain mail to portray the look of a warrior. On the second left is the Female Viking Attire. Viking women took pride in dyeing their clothing. This red woollen dress is worn by Lagertha in the series, as she rises up the ranks as a woman of powerful social status. A fur cloak is worn over the dress to stay warm due to harsh weather condition. The third costume from the left is the Male Viking Attire. This garment is worn by Ragnar and is intricately woven, braided, aged and distressed to portray the many battles and raids the Vikings survived.

THE VIKING WOMEN
Trying to keep a stern face is not easy
The Viking women are not to be belittled as they holds authority over certain major situations and their opinions are regarded with great respects by the spouse. The most interesting thing I learnt from the exhibition is that the wife could choose to divorce her husband without his permission should there be any conflicts between the two of them through a simple ritual with some witnesses.

THE VIKING CODE OF ETHICS

Brotherhood and family
I think the sayings, "the family that fought together, stays together" is most appropriate to them. They fought in battles together and were fiercely protective of each other. They also have their own code of ethics. The nine noble virtues that Vikings live by are, Courage, Honour, Self-Reliance, Discipline, Perseverance, Truth, Industriousness, Fidelity and Hospitality.

THE VIKING WEAPONRY

Every Viking would have had an axe and a knife for boat building, getting food and protection. Spears were also used during battles for stabbing the enemy. Shields were a big part of their war and battle strategy. For protection and attacking.

Mediacorp drama 《X 元素》Beyond : Inner thoughts

Wealth is like sea-water; the more we drink, the thirstier we become; and the same is true of fame.(财富就像海水,饮得越多,渴得越厉害;名望实际上也是如此。)Arthur Schopenhauer
