[Recipe] Marmite4UMarmite4Me : Hearty Dish For the Young , Grown up and Elderly

Welcome to the World of Marmite! Most of us should have heard of and eaten before food prepared or cooked with Marmite but not many would have known the history of Marmite.

Marmite has a strong heritage in history. In fact, it was invented by a German scientist, Justus Liebig in the late 19th Century. He accidentally discovered that the useless leftover brewer's yeast could be concentrated, bottled and eaten. It was first made edible and sold to the British public over 100 years ago.

Marmite is a French term for a large covered earthenware or metal cooking pot which the yeast extract was supplied in originally. The image of this pot has since been used as a logo for the label. Now, Marmite is sold in the bulbous glass jars that we are all so familiar with today.

Beside being 100% Vegetarian, Marmite is also Halal certified. Rich in Vitamin B, Marmite plays a useful part in many people's diet. It is also a rich source of folic acid, that many women of child-bearing age are found to be deficient of. The brand has successfully established itself as a healthy spread for children. In fact, I remember my mum mixing this in plain porridge to make it flavourful and nutritious. It can also be as simple as adding hot water to make marmite soup but today I'm going to share a more complex recipe of cooking Marmite Chicken Wing

MARMITE CHICKEN WING

Ingredients needed:

- 400g Mid Wings, cleaned
- 50g Whole Garlic, peeled & quick fry
- 50g Whole Shallot, peeled & quick fry

Seasoning:

- 1/2 tbsp Marmite Sauce
- 1 tbsp Hot Bean Sauce

- 1/2 tbsp Dark Soy Sauce
- 1/2 tsp Sesame Oil
- 60 ml water

Method of Preparation:

1. Mixed all seasoning together and set aside.
2. Pre sear chicken wings for few minutes (half cooked)
3. Heat up pan, add oil and half cooked chicken wings
4. Add seasoning sauce mixture and stir till seasoning reduce about 5 minutes

[EVENT] Emirates Singapore Derby Roadshow + Instagram Contest

The Emirates Singapore Derby is known to be one of the most anticipated events on the local racing calendar. The running of the Group 1 Emirates Singapore Derby over 2,000m on turf at the Singapore Racecourse will commence on Sunday, 10 July 2016. For the very first time, two public roadshows were organised to bring about public awareness to racing fans as well as members of the public.

Jessie, my cousin and I went to the first day of the roadshow and met cookie there. Together, we took an instant photo for memory. There was a series of fun and interactive activities like horse feeding and horse petting which we've missed out.

We do, however get a chance to go up on stage for a Q&A and photo-taking session with the two Singapore Turf Club's mascots - Racer and Clover. My question that I answered correctly was, "Name the person who rides a horse." With that I won an Airbus A380 Fridge Magnet from Emirates.

Emirates is the title sponsor for the Singapore Derby and the longstanding partnership between Singapore Turf Club and Emirates has made Emirates Singapore Derby not only a premier racing event, but also a highly covetable social event as well.

My cousin and I also queue up to try our hands for the Horseshoe Pitching. None of the horseshoes that I threw even get close to the rod for scoring. It was tough even after we tried to imitate the way the experts threw. Was told that eventually, this game might be classify as a sports in the Olympics in future! First prize for the Horseshoe Pitching can get up to S$2,000.

INSTAGRAM CONTEST TILL 8 JULY 16, 2359

Simply upload your best RED outfit of the day (OOTD) onto your instagram account and hashtag #EmiratesRedFashion and tag @SGTurfClub and you will stand a chance to win a set of premium gift worth about S$2,000 from Emirates. *T&Cs apply.

For those who wants to gain a first-hand Derby experience, you may get the Emirates Singapore Derby Marquee Package at $118 per person which allows you to enjoy a lavish buffet spread and free flow of beverages with a vantage position for a close-up view of the intense racing actions. You can also take part in the Emirates Prediction Contest and stand to win a Chopard watch for the Emirates Singapore Derby race and an Emirates Cardholder for the other races on that afternoon. An exclusive Emirates Cap and Bear are also included in each Marquee Package as memento. For bookings and enquiries on the Derby Marquee Package, please call 6879 1719 or email marketing@turfclub.com.sg

The Emirates Singapore Derby 2016 at the Singapore Racecourse will also be telecast 'live' on Channel NewsAsia and StarHub SuperSports Arena from 3,55pm on Sunday, 10 July.

[Event] Sail back through HISTORY™ with the VIKINGS at Marina Square

HISTORY™ Comes To Life at Marina Square
Fans of HISTORY™ would be glad to learn that the channel's highly anticipated drama series, VIKINGS, has already premiered on the 27th February 2015 on StarHub TV Ch 401.

HISTORY™ even held the first ever Viking Village at Marina Square Central Atrium over four days from 26th February to 1st March which attracted about 30,000 Singaporeans.

Me at the Vikings Village's Closing Event
I was glad to be invited to the Vikings Village's Closing Event and for those who wanted to be there but couldn't make it, let me share some of the interesting exhibits and what we did over there.

Lots of engaging activities for the kids as well as adults
Held in partnership with StarHub, this educational and interactive Vikings Village allows the public to learn more about the medieval and mysterious world of the Vikings, providing an in-depth historical representation to visitors at the village.

INTRODUCTION TO THE VIKINGS
Who were the Vikings?
My first introduction to the Vikings was from the movie, "How to Train Your Dragon" and now I get to know more about them. There's Viking society were divided into three classes namely the THRALLS, KARLS, JARLS and all of them are under the KINGS.

THE VIKINGS COSTUMES

Original costumes of the Vikings
These are the original costumes flown in from the production set in Ireland. Attire worn during battle consists of armour which is made of mostly leather and chain mail to portray the look of a warrior. On the second left is the Female Viking Attire. Viking women took pride in dyeing their clothing. This red woollen dress is worn by Lagertha in the series, as she rises up the ranks as a woman of powerful social status. A fur cloak is worn over the dress to stay warm due to harsh weather condition. The third costume from the left is the Male Viking Attire. This garment is worn by Ragnar and is intricately woven, braided, aged and distressed to portray the many battles and raids the Vikings survived.

THE VIKING WOMEN
Trying to keep a stern face is not easy
The Viking women are not to be belittled as they holds authority over certain major situations and their opinions are regarded with great respects by the spouse. The most interesting thing I learnt from the exhibition is that the wife could choose to divorce her husband without his permission should there be any conflicts between the two of them through a simple ritual with some witnesses.

THE VIKING CODE OF ETHICS

Brotherhood and family
I think the sayings, "the family that fought together, stays together" is most appropriate to them. They fought in battles together and were fiercely protective of each other. They also have their own code of ethics. The nine noble virtues that Vikings live by are, Courage, Honour, Self-Reliance, Discipline, Perseverance, Truth, Industriousness, Fidelity and Hospitality.

THE VIKING WEAPONRY

Every Viking would have had an axe and a knife for boat building, getting food and protection. Spears were also used during battles for stabbing the enemy. Shields were a big part of their war and battle strategy. For protection and attacking.

CONTEST: VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE VIKINGS LONGSHIP

Vikings Longship
A total of 10 Vikings Longship made of LEGO® were on display. Here's a photo collage of some that I like the most. You can now vote for your favourite and stand a chance to win a LEGO® set and vouchers worth a total of $200! Contest ends 31 March 2015 and you may cast your vote at this website

For us, there's a lot of traditional beliefs to be observed during the Chinese new Year to welcome good fortune, good luck and great family bonding. An example of such practice is to play around with the homophonic Chinese words that convey positive meanings. Many of the festive delicacies we ate share the same pronunciation of well-meaning wishes. Yu Sheng (鱼生) for example shares the same pronunciation as 余升, which means an increase in abundance.

F&N Outrageous Orange, in particular, is symbolic of all things auspicious and is a staple during Chinese New Year. The gesture of pouring () is pronounced similar to arrival (), indicating the act of wishing the recipients abundant wealth for the rest of the lunar calendar. The happy and cheery variants of F&N Sparkling Drinks is a familiar sight during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

On the top right hand corner of the F&N Sparkling Drinks Festive Pack, you will also find a $2 off coupon that can be used when purchasing Home's Favourite cookies.
