It has always been my dream to travel around the World in 80 days. Now SingTel Experience Centre is able to make my dream partly come true without leaving Singapore with their new interactive technology that allows us to travel around the World in 80 milliseconds.
I've very honored to be able to attend their launch before it's officially open to the public on 6th December 2012. If you are wondering where is it located, it's actually just inside SingTel Shop at ComCentre (31 Exeter Road Singapore 239732). Operating hours follows the operating hours of the normal SingTel shop. Now, that's something interesting to do while waiting for the queue.
Check out exotic cities (currently only features images on Paris, Shanghai and Rio de Janeiro) on this giant 14-metre, 180-degree circular screen. This technology uses intuitive Minority Report style body gestures to manipulate and interact with the multimedia images on the screen.

Up to five concurrent users can be detected and the images would be adjusted accordingly. No more full screen if too many users are at it.
Making the right moves allows user to zoom in and out of the images, navigate to a particular points of interest and the most amazing features has got to be the binoculars action!!!

When you put both of your hands over at your eyes area as if you are holding a binoculars, the system will detected that and the image will be zoomed in many times more just like viewing from a real binoculars!!!

User can also take a photograph of themselves superimposed on the city landscape and share them online. Now you can show off a photo of you with the eiffel tower in Paris! Jess Baby, Shu Qing and I tried that and that's our photo, with love from Paris! The quality of the photo have much room for improvement but it's really fun.
Can't stop laughing at the photo Hp has taken of himself, it make him looked super young, like a primary school boy. LOLOL. Jess Baby and some of them keep waving their hands to the right cause that would signal the system to upload it on the web. Of course, Hp didn't want to and so he's the only one waving his hand to the left. In the end, the photo still got uploaded. Go find it if you can! Haha, I'm not sure whether is it still there or not.
This is the globe of destination. Those countries marked by a "star" are those that user can load onto the screen and visit. Those with the "thumbs Up" or "like" are countries waiting to be voted. Once the targeted votes has been reached, SingTel will then capture the photos and turn it into the next countries to be marked as a star.

If you've noticed, there's no SingTel logo anywhere in the Experience Centre, this whole experience is not associated with sales. It's more like a project by SingTel to analyse on how each user interacts with the system - what gestures were used, how quickly we learn, how we respond to tutorials and how we engage with natural gestures. With these information, SingTel can explore how the technology can be applied in real-life commercial applications. Currently SingTel is also working with partners to explore video conferencing technologies that use life size 3D holographic images. They are also looking into eye-tracking technologies that may allow users to control virtual objects and electronic devices just by sight. If successfully implemented, this could mean a revolution to the way computers and household appliances are used.
