[Run] The Music Run™ 2016 by AIA

The Music Run Race Bag Collection at The Cathay on 16th April
Back for the second year, The Music Run™ by AIA is the ultimate 5km running music festival. Featuring over 120 concert quality speakers pumping out loud music across the 5 different music themed zones, this is a run that allows runners to experience total music immersion while you run, sing and dance your way from the starting point to the finishing point.

With my running buddy, Jessie at the Starting Point
By far the most enjoyable run that I participated, this is also the second year that I'm joining in this un-timed, non-competitive fun run. I won a pair of Standard ticket during my Company's Vitality Wellness Day when I joined in their Instagram contest. A few other friends had even asked me if I have spare tickets as they knew I'm working at AIA, which happens to be the Presenting Sponsor for The Music Run but I only have a pair. Next year, hopefully I can get more tickets so that I can invite my friends to join in the fun.

Old School is my favourite music zone
Some days before the actual run, we actually get to vote for our favourite songs online from a list of songs to form the official soundtrack of this run in Spotify. The five different music themed zones are Rock, Pop, Old School, Hip Hop and Dance. Old School is definitely my favourite as we sang out loud to songs like, It's My Life by Bon Jovi and Oops, I did it again by Britney Spears. These songs that we are so familiar with, we knew the lyrics deep in our heart. Some of my other favourites songs that were voted in are Bang Bang Bang by Big Bang, Hotline Bling by Drake, Yeah! by Usher, Demons by Imagine Dragons, Sorry by Justin Bieber, Drag Me Down by One Direction, Billie Jean by Michael Jackson and so much more.

Dance with the Rockstars
Hit the Giant Balls at the Pop Zone
Some of the interactive sections in the different music zones. My least favourite music zone is actually the Dance Zone which is the last lap of the run. None of the songs played there are familiar to me and it seems to be the longest route.

With our finisher medal
Our second run together and another medal added to my medals collection. Next year, we will be back again!

Front and Back view of the finisher medal
Was just wondering if the organizer will turned this into a timed-run next year?

The Finisher Flatlay
After the run, there's some live performances by popular local band The Sam Willows and rising Australian DJ Sam Withers. Didn't stayed on for this so we went for dinner.

AWESOME RUN AND I PROUD TO SAY I LIVED THE BEAT!

[EXHIBITION] Affordable Art Fair Spring Edition - AAFter Glow Evening

Get #ArtHappy at the Affordable Art Fair, F1 Pit Building
This Affordable Art Fair kicks off their seventh year in Singapore and being their third Spring edition, they have this #ArtHappy campaign to make things a little more fun. I happened to win a pair of tickets to their Affordable Art Fair After Glow Evening and when I do the redemption, I was given the choice to select up to 6 tickets so I did that and brought 5 other friends along.

The first art installation "Room of Mind" by Iqi Qoror from Indonesia
We were treated to a free pink Popsicle from Ice Cream Momolato right before we enter the gallery. The first art installation that greeted us at level 2 is this big red mess of what I thought is a giant rock and two pair of legs underneath.

Later, I did some research and found out that the artist, Iqi is trying to portray how we humans often automatically jump from one state of mind to another based on our external situation and conditions. He believes our mind has lots of thinking and plans get wasted, just like a crumpled mess of paper that goes straight to the bin. Through this artwork, Iqi thinks that we need to rest out mind, so we can be more aware of our thoughts and actions, otherwise our brain will self-destruct.

Egg spotted from The Great Egg-Venture 2016
Four eggs have been specially selected to be showcased in the fair which reflected a range of different artistic ideas. This just looks like a bigger version of the full months red eggs which gave me an idea, maybe next time we can draw some special designs on those full months red eggs and sell them as a set?

ARTWORKS THAT IMPRESSED ME

Artworks are priced between $100 and $10,000 with the aim to make art as fun, accessible and affordable to the mass market as possible.

Tape Art by Max Zorn
Artwork created from brown packing tape
Often referred to as "tape artist", I was amazed by the live demonstration of how Max Zorn uses ordinary brown packing tape as his medium and a surgeon's scalpel as a brush instead of the usual paint and paintbrush. Art comes in different form and this is one really unique idea to create art pieces.

The only framing service found there
Spent the most of my time at The Frame Society with Derrick as the friendly lady was sharing with us stories of the artworks exhibited with their frame. They provide complimentary consultation at home or in their gallery at Holland Village. (Contact Alex Mytton-Mills or Emilia Lee at 6466 1147)

Beautiful artwork by Christian Develter. Notice how the women's faces all have lines on them? What inspired him to draw the lines on the women's face is actually by the real Chin people living at the border of China and Myanmar. The lines on the women's faces are used to identify which tribe they actually belongs to. Lines were tattooed on the girls faces the moment they reaches puberty age.

The real life photos.

An augmented reality performance called "You Know JS". YOU KNOW JS was first performed in KULTER, Amsterdam in Oct 2015 and then at SingaPlural Festival in March 2016. For this live performance, we have to use an iPhone app to view and interact with the live performance. We only get to know there's an app for this after the performance was over.

Realistic 3D artwork. The fishes were all painted on.

Reminds me of a friend's pet at home.

Different faces.

So nice to look at.

Sculptures :)

Ending my post with this pretty and colourful heart. Would be very nice to display it at home. These artworks are so beautiful, each with their own stories to tell. I'm not good at drawing and acting, so for now, I shall just stick back to doing my colouring project.

[BEAUTY] Gelish Manicure + Pedicure at CL'athena Nails Salotto

When was the last time you did something for yourself? Time away from working for others, time away from helping others get things done. I guess I've been spending most of my energy on others and it's time to make sure my own well-beings are taken care of.

I decided to start from my nails by going for a full gelish manicure and pedicure session at CL'athena Nails Salotto. Everything was done within an hour and this one hour was simply a relaxing time.

Checking out some of the nail arts the lady boss and the manicurist did. The lady boss goes for a more gentle, sweet and flowery kind of style for her nail art design. Whereas, her manicurist, Bel has a more fashionable style, that inspired Bao Bao Issey Miyake nail art is an evidence to bring the point across.

*** PEDICURE TIME ****

My feet photo, taken after some soaking and removing of dead skin. Bel is very attentive to check through my nails and the area around my nails to ensure that they are healthy. Some customers have foot rot or other feet issues and may need special treatment. And after this closed up photo did I realized that the little strand of hairs on my big toe looks really ugly, but luckily Bel helped me to pluck them off later on.

Dedicated Bel doing her job!

My nails ready to be painted with colours now! No more strands of hair.

All done. Now I look down at my feet and all I see are the pretty nails. As my nails are too small, I didn't request to do complicated nail arts on them. So I just go for this classy type.

*** MANICURE TIME ****

For my manicure, my friend sent me this video for reference and I took a few screenshot of the nail art which I prefer.

I chose this design in the end. It's simple and colourful with bold black stripes. A bit like rebellious on the sweet side. Haha.

So while Bel is working on my Pedicure, she's doing my manicure at the same time, saving me a lot of time.

Completed nails. The base colour is white and the four pastel colours were individually dabbed on with her finger thus the smudgy effect. Seems easy to do but I definitely do not have that kind of patience to do this myself.

Mirror reflection with EXO music video playing in the background.

This is how the inside of the shop looks like. It's a small and cozy place. I felt that the price is pretty reasonable too. Express manicure cost just S$25 and with nail art will range about S$40 to S$100 plus depending on the difficulties level and design.

Yeah, this type will cost about S$100+. Look at that amount of bling and was told that it was a 10 different tone glitter nail art, meaning all 10 nails will have a different glitter colour. Very cool but not for me as I'm too rough.

Pretty nails and pretty snapchat filter calls for a pretty selfie! Thank you for the pampering nails treat.

[CONCERT] C Asean Consonant Concert 2016 : The Sound and Spirit of ASEAN

It was a relaxing night of beautiful music as I attended the C asean Consonant Concert: The Sound and Spirit of ASEAN.  This 75-minute concert was held at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House Auditorium of the National University of Singapore.

C asean is a Bangkok-based social enterprise established in 2013 with the mission to build a regional hub for ASEAN knowledge center, focusing on business startups and ASEAN art and culture as well as building an effective ASEAN network and community and to set a stage of showcase on business, arts, and culture for young entrepreneurs and new generations. The vision of C asean is "Collaboration for the better of ASEAN's connectivity".

Art and cultural is one key elements to unite and connect ASEAN together, thus C asean Consonant is formed to bring together new generations of musicians across ASEAN. ASEAN is a diversifying region and C asean Consonant aims to use music to bring together musicians across ASEAN countries. Music is the best language to be used as a universal bridge to preserve the traditional cultural and to promote friendship. One do not have to know the language to know the power of music.

Associate Professor Victor R Savage of the NUS Office of Alumni Relations, co-organiser of the concert, says, "Music after all is an international language that transcends linguistic, cultural, religious, political and economic barriers."

Featuring talented young musicians from ten ASEAN countires (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) who gather to showcase a medley of traditional music and the instruments from their country. This platform allows the young talents across ASEAN to develop, share, learn and preserve the traditional music of ASEAN.

Winning the 1st prize of ASEAN Anthem competition, The Asean Way has become the official regional anthem of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and was the first performance of the night. This performance is sang by The Singapore Kids in SQ uniform with the age ranging from 5 to 13 years old. Conducted by Mr Watchara Pluemyart.

Songs are specially selected and rearrange to accentuate the uniqueness of each traditional musical instruments.

VIDEOS OF SOME OF MY FAVOURITE PERFORMANCE

Short Clip of The Asean Way

Full Clip of Sarika Keo (Cambodia)

This is a very unique performance whereby melodies and musical instruments are being used to illustrate a kind of bird that can imitate the sound of human and nature. The bird enjoys singing, dancing and eating fruits on the tree. Conducted by Mr Watchara Pluemyart.

Full Clip of Dayung Sampan (Singapore)

Dayung Sampan is a regional song unifying the courageous "orang laut" (sea gypsies) who formed the backbone of the Great Asian Sea Trade Route. The version in Singapore praises the link with China and the deep happiness when the little sampans or small boats) come. Conducted by Alicia Joyce De Silva.

Full Clip of Salidummay (Philippines)

Salidummay is a popular folk song among various ethnic groups in Cordillera Highland in the north of Philippines. Bamboo instruments are used to interlock and accompany call and response singing. This is one performance we as audience play a part too.

Full Clip of Pandang Pandang Jeling Jeling (Malaysia)

Composed in Inang rhythm, the original version of this song was sung by Data S M Salim and Dato Siti Nurhaliza in "Pantun" poetry form. I really like this music so much that I went back to find it on YouTube and now had it on my Spotify.

** All the full length videos credit to lwlwilliam. Thanks a lot! **

C asean also engages with several organizations to help gain regional recognition for this music collaboration. ThaiBev, Thailand and Southeast Asia's leading beverage company, incorporated with F&N Malaysia and Singapore, lays plan to support C asean Consonant as a major contributor to this series concert.
