City Square Mall Food Festival 2014
Foodies like me are in for a treat with a range of delectable deals City Square Mall has lined up for us this food festival from 4 July to 3 August. Beside being Singapore's first eco-mall (with lots of awards received), City Square Mall is also conveniently connected to Farrer Park MRT Station so that even someone like me who stayed in the West wouldn't have much to complain on travelling down for the great deals that were offered there.
I was being invited to the food trail at City Square Mall and I will share what's delicious at the two restaurants I went to. Let me take a selfie before I begin. Lots of food photos ahead!
Momiji is a Japanese-themed buffet restaurant which provides over 150 culinary selections such as Sushi, Sashimi, Seafood, Paper Steamboat, Teppanyaki and many more. It occupies a very big area at Level 5 and thus it's very spacious inside to enjoy the food. The eat-all-you-can concept gets us very excited and at the same time at a loss to what we should take.
One of the highlights of this buffet is their cold dish selection consisting of snow crabs, prawns, scallops, escargots and of course the sashimis. This corner is so high in demand that they need to be replenished frequently.
We know that Sushi is a common food item available at Japanese restaurants. However, the sushi available here are mainly made up of the premium selections we have in other normal Japanese restaurants.
Chawanmushi is my favourite dish in any Japanese restaurant. Here there are two different type of Chawanmushis. One is the prawn, and the other is the mushroom. Without thinking, I have taken both ^_^Y.
On every table are little clips with the table numbers indicated. These clips are used to order food items which require some preparations like the Teppanyaki and Sukiyaki dishes.
To order, all you need to do is to clip on the metal bar beside the wooden signboard to indicate you want to have that dish. The chef will then cook the dish deliciously and serve to our table when ready. This is very recommended for those who would like piping hot dishes at the table.
Look at our choices. The prawns, pan-fried osyters and hot soup with pork shabu shabu.
While waiting for our food to be served to us, we took some dishes from the ready-to-eat section. We took some curry, fried food and of course yakitoris.
Although the Japanese curry is nice, my suggestion is not to waste your stomach space at this section.
The next highlight is the free-flow of Sapporo Beer (330ml) at these two timing from 12.30pm to 1.30pm or 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Each person is only allowed to redeem one bottle at a time and to redeem for more during the specific 1 hour, you have to bring back the empty bottle. The soft drinks and non-carbonated drinks are free-flow as well.
Finally, to the last course of our dinner, the Desserts. The desserts here consist of the usual fruits, cakes, pastries and ice-cream.
The highlight for their desserts is the premium HAAGEN DAZS ice-cream!!! The four flavours are Macadamia, Belgium Chocolate, Rum & Raisin and Green Tea. Obviously, I could not resist the sinful, thick and creamy chocolate, therefore my pick is the Belgium Chocolate ice-cream.
Next up, is Paddington House of Pancakes.
Paddington House of Pancakes is a franchise from Malaysia serving variations of pancakes all over the world thus the opening photo "Eat Your Way Around the World". It has outlets in Malaysia, Macau, Brunei and Singapore. The only outlet in Singapore is located at City Square Mall. The green juice in front is the Kiwi lime and lychee drinks ($5) which is rather refreshing.
Paddington House of Pancakes is not a dessert restaurant. They serves sweet and savoury pancakes like a normal restaurant course meal which includes appetizer, main course and desserts. One would get a big headache probably when it comes to choosing what to have from from the menu of over 100 choices of pancake dishes.

Compare the price to their wide variety of dishes, I would say this is definitely worth your money.

On the left is Summer Berries Yoghurt Smoothie ($7) and on the right is Hot red velvet chocolate with marshmallows ($7). Both are sweet, creamy and absolutely delicious.
Salsa Taco Salad ($14) is a great appetizer to start the meal.
Vienna Pannekoek ($13). This is basically a dutch pancake which is paper thin and crispy at some part. It is generously topped with toppings.
Aussie Burger Chicken ($16) with the typical bread buns replaced by pancakes. Look at that sunny side up egg!
Nice ($16) taste quite nice and is more for those who prefer to go for something meaty.
Hot blintzes with banana, cheese and peanut butter served with ice-cream and banana sauce ($13). Don't that look delish?
Big Treasure Box ($15) served with mini pancakes, fruits and ice-cream. Can't wait to dig into this bowl of treasures to see what's inside.
Tiramisu Sundae ($8). If you think this would not have any pancakes inside, you are wrong. At Paddington House of Pancakes, even their sundaes are served with mini pancakes (aka dollar pancakes) inside. For Tiramisu Sundae, instead of the typical sponge fingers, mini pancakes supersede.
Initially, we thought pancakes are just for desserts and it's probably those small sized pancakes. It was only until we were seated inside and when the dishes were served in one by one that makes our jaw dropped. If you are as curious, do pay them a visit.
They have also launched 5 specially created fondue flavours - Chocolate, butterscotch, salted butter caramel, red velvet and white chocolate fondue to go with your pancakes.
