Theatre Review : Le Noir - The Intimate Side Of Cirque

Embark on a fascinating theatrical journey featuring 20 of the world's best circus professionals, many of them formerly from Cirque Du Soleil, to come together to bring Le Noir, The Intimate Side Of Cirque at the MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands. The response was so good that the seats for the opening week was sold out and thus the organizer decided to add an additional week of shows to meet demand. Tickets for the show are selling fast from now till 7th April.  You definitely have to be part of the show with Le Noir and if you are still not convinced, do read on as I'll be sharing some of the facts, thoughts and photos of the show.

A little background first. Le Noir opens in Singapore on the 12th of March after a sellout session in Tokyo and they promises to give the audiences an extraordinary visual feast as they used metaphors of white, red and black to describe the diverse range of their personalities.

To give audience an unique and intimate experience, the MasterCard Theatre at Marina Bay Sands is deliberately transformed to provide a spectacular 350 degree view of the performance by custom building a circular stage of 2.5 meters in diameter. For the first time ever, the Sands Theatre seats is limited to a little over 1,100 seats just to provide that intimate experience so even the furthest seat would not be too far away from the stage.

We were there early so we started taking photos. Anyway, no flash photography and videography allowed once you are seated inside so try to take all the nice photos first before going in. I'm glad that this time round bf is rather looking forward to the show too.

This is how it looks like for the photos taken inside the theatre. Haha, but we still took quite a lot of photos.

SALVADOR SALANGSANG JR
Salvador Salangsang Jr is the guy on the right who is the emcee as well as the role of a clown for Le Noir. Basically, he appears during transition between the different acrobatic acts and usually he would picked some audiences from the audience seats to partake in his stand-up comedy. He brings laughter to the whole theatre and for a while the tense atmosphere is eased off.

This was truly a sight to behold! Led by the Creative Producer, Simon Painter and with so many different acts in total, you are bound to be able to find one that will blow your mind.

Yes, this looks like the normal hula hoop we twist over at our waist but to Thomas Worrell it's more than a hula hoop. The solid steel hoop allows him to spin and swing through the air with power and grace.

The second act of the show was a captivating cyr wheel performance by David Matz. The movement was so fast, sometime it seems like the giant wheel is invisible.

Watched in awe as Irina Naumenko show us the flexibility of her body. Every moments is as elegant and breathtaking as she revolves around the stage on the one meter tall canes.

The colour theme soon changed to a passion of red. For a moment, the stage was filled with red, hot and sexy dancers. Credit to some of the dnacers namely, Ashleigh Mccready, Erica Kiehl Jenkins, Jennifer Gainey, Elizabeth Marie Chestang.

The next act put up by Ruslan Dmytruk is one of the most amazing performance of its kind. It's a very individual style of the art of juggling. A blend of acrobatics, dance moves and tampo balls manipulation. Although his costume looks weird, he never missed a single balls!

The Duo Trapeze is put up by identical twins, Rustana and Taisiia Bazaliy. Watch them swing, flip and catch each other in mid-air gracefully amid the music and spotlights.

Salvador Salangsang Jr, the emcee appears again during the interval.

And bf got picked up to the stage!!! Extremely hilarious especially since the person you know is up on stage. OMG!

He's telling the them to raise up their hands but since bf has recently got himself injured, so he can't lift up his hand too high.

And the Kungfu pose!!! Lolol!

All laughing away. They must be thinking, "I can't believe I just did that." Wahaha.

Individual time!

The last guy was asked to perform a somersault. I wonder does the guy know how to somersault already or it was his first time doing that.

Hand to Hand act by Valeri Lyubchev Tsvetkov and Yani Kostov Stoyanov. This is the art of performing acrobatic maneuvers while supported wholly by one's hands or arms. The person supporting must be really strong and tough to be the base for the flyer.

There's a 20 minutes break time. Our seats are the third row from the side, number 32 and 33.

Now comes the last colour theme. Black, the darkness of Le Noir.

Aerial Straps by Dmytro Deyneko. Again a test of strength and flexibility.

Yes, the emcee is back again. This time round, he acted as a fat guy and picked a lady to be his date and put up a picnic with her. Haha.

Broke into cold sweat when it's the time for the 8th Act - Rolla Bolla by Gediminas Pavlovicius. He did a wonderful job by balancing on seven cylinders topped by a board.

Didn't managed to take photos for the last three acts as well. Pas De Deux by Anne-Marie Godin and Diego Rodarte Amor, Shape Spinner by Denis Ignatov-Radokhov and lastly the Roller Skaters by Leandro Zeferino Micaelo and Ursula Naike Nunez Rossi. Their performances were just as awesome!! Especially the roller skaters, at one point, the guy was spinning his partner by the neck!!!

With such incredible displays of balance, contortion, stamina and aerial artistry, Le Noir is a show not to be missed.

Big thanks to Base Entertainment for the invites! Truly enjoyed myself at the show!
