Had a date with my colleagues. So nice she has 4 free tickets to watch this movie - The Ultimate Winner 赢家 directed by Li Nan Xing 李南星 and she invited us to join her. It's kinda funny that our first outing (from the day Missy starts work) is organised by JT who is so much senior than us. Thought it should be us as the youngster to organize.
Due to my heavy workload today, we all left office about 8pm and reached there around 8.30pm. Poor JT has been wondering alone and waiting for us to eat dinner together. Ended up having an expansive and not so nice dinner at Food Republic.
The commercials before the movie lasted for 15 minutes.
This movie is those very typical and predictable movie. We see Li Nan Xing acting as 施天才, as his name suggest, he's like a genius when it comes to gambling. It seems like he can memories the cards when they are being shuffled and he could correctly guess the cards. I like his character in the movie as a very homely man who loves his wife acted by Rebecca Lim 林慧玲 very much. So every time he he will pass his wife all the winnings he get from the gambling game. His earnings from the gambling are usually alot, leave me wondering if I were him and his wife, after that better stop and retire already. His gambling games are usually planned by his partner acted by Constance Song 宋怡霏 and her name in the movie is called Honey Ma. So funny.
So of course after so many winnings, he has to lost and he lost greatly. He lost everything. He even became a crippled. Honey Ma is worse, she got shot and ended up paralysed and have to sit in a wheelchair. The ending, we saw Li Nan Xing giving flyers together with his wife, encouraging people to join their church activities.
Actually the movie's not bad for a first time director like Li Nan Xing, whole storyline conveys an important message about how habitual gambling will ruin everything and the most important thing one must treasure is our family cause when we are desperate, they are the ones we can turn to. Also abit about religion as we see the wife going to churches and some praying.
In the movie, the song that was played and also when the movie ends, Li Nan Xing 李南星 also personally sang this song. Quite a nice oldies. I tried very hard before I got the title and found it on YouTube.
