Sentosa Spooktacular 2014 - Welcome to Laddaland

Sentosa Spooktacular is back this Halloween with a more immersive and integrated experience for visitors as the boundaries of the once Fort Siloso and the new haunted village Laddaland are blurred. This is the result of the successful partnership between Sentosa Leisure Management Pte Ltd and Thai film production studio, GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd (GTH). Both organisations are expert in delivery the experience of being enveloped in a bone-chilling walkthrough for horror fans with their expertise in destination and production capabilities.

Forget about Fort Siloso as this Halloween, all 40,000 square metres of Fort Siloso are being transformed into a haunted residential zone known as Laddaland which is based on GTH's well received movie of the same name. We are now getting ready to explore this new neighborhood.

Gather your courage and explore the street of Laddaland, where every house is cursed and haunted with wondering spirits lurking around to claim new souls to join them.

This must be the reason why we smile so happily in the photo. It's still broad daylight and we are still feeling fresh and excited. Anyway, this is just the beginning. Wait till it's night time, and things will be different.

******************************

The Laddaland movie is about a family of four who abandoned their old lives and moved here, ready to settle down in a beautiful home they call their own. All is well until they found out about the ruthless murder of a Burmese maid in their neighbour's house. Savagely beaten, her mangled body is found stuffed inside the refrigerator. A wrongful death results in a vengeful soul. Even the innocent ones are not spared from strange sightings and mournful cries.

Headless ghost wondering around, scaring us who are queuing. They may even mingle among as one of us in the queue, so always keep a watch out. Who knows you might just turn back and come face to face with a wondering ghost and not your friends! We got frighten and screamed when one of the ghost crawl in to our queue. We didn't even know he was there!

TRAIL 1 - COUNTDOWN

"4...3...2...1...Happy New year!" Join 3 friends - Jack, Bee and Pam, as they planned to celebrate the start of a new year in style. Lose yourself in their excitement as they wait eagerly for a drug ddealer to drop some good stuff at their apartment. The climax draws near when Jesus show up, shares the loot, and proves to be the life of the party. However, there is just something about him that you cannot seem to put a finger on. A game master always has a game plan. Can you play the game by his rules, or will that be too much for you to handle?

Jessie, Shu Qing, Riah and I while waiting. Thankfully, Riah brought a fan, it was really hot down there.

We entered the dark trail with a bouncer welcoming us and some dancers dancing to loud music playing in the background. "You spin my head right round, right round, when you go down, when you go down down..." They looked really happy and enjoying themselves.

In this trail we were given a paper type of 3D illusion glasses for us to view the 3D effects created. Was really fascinated by the skulls passageway. After putting on the glasses, I see the skulls floating out of the wall, the spiral bridge spinning, etc. It's like battling hallucination while struggling to find the way out this crazy house. No wonder in the beginning, they played that "You spin my head right round" song. I was feeling giddy but there's no stopping halfway, this trail is long and we have to pass through cracks in walls, bend down to pass through those colorful ropes before we are finally out.

TRAIL 2 - ALONE

You may think it's cute to have Siamese twins as next door neighbours. Conjoined at the stomach from birth, Pim and Ploy are Siamese twin sisters bounded skin-to-skin, organ-to-organ, for life. They even shared the same affection for a boy named Vee but Vee only had eyes for Pim. Years laterm Vee is seen happily married to Pim, who had survived the operation which separated her from Ploy, the same operation which left her sister dead. Ploy is not one to leave peacefully. Back with a vengeance, she will make sure her sister regrets ever to be separated from her.

This is the scariest trail of all. You can tell just from the outside. Look at those windows, it does seems like some ghostly images are looking down through the windows, waiting for us to enter.

The props used are so real, it's sometimes hard to differentiate whether it's human with make-up or just props. Every steps we take are with fear.

We were made to walk through SEWAGES! :O Can you imagine how creepy that is in the dark?

Do not look over your shoulder, for you are never quite alone.

I remember this scene because I was frighten by the loud chopping sound. It was really gross when you look closely.

Along the trail, we met Mr Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, Senior Director of International Business department, GTH Movie Director and producer for GTH's films. Had a good chat and before he left to catch up with his group, we managed to take this precious group photo with him! :D

TRAIL 3 - THE SWIMMERS

Perth is the school's star swimming athlete. However, the swimming pool is no longer safe after a fetal accident that killed his long-time crush. It is now haunted with ghosts of dead swimmers.

This is the shortest trail. This is very much like the scene in the actual movie itself. I've watched the movie in August (Read movie review of The Swimmer's post here

Make your way through this. You can't see what's in front and can't even walk straight.

The feeling that you are trapped under the swimming pool.

We sweat, we screamed and we survived Sentosa Spooktacular 2014! Cheers to that. Compared to Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 (Read post here), this year there's fewer trails but it's longer at each trail. There's a lot of effort being put in to design all the trails and haunted houses.

Nice photo of Riah with one of the wondering ghost.

Magnificent ghost that looks like he just came from Avatar. I love the costume!

Sentosa Events - Sentosa Spooktacular + Amara Sanctuary Wedding Show + Soulscape

October is a happening month for me. So far, I've got three events happening at Sentosa, two of them are for media invites and one of them is a personal event. I'm really looking forward to all these events with much anticipation. In this post, I shall share some highlights of these events.

Foreseeing that I would be going to Sentosa quite often, I redeemed the Sentosa Islander Card with the Starhub Rewards Point. As it takes 2-3 weeks for the original card to be mailed to me, I went down to get a temporary pass (can last for 7 days) that would allow me free entry into Sentosa.

Now time for the highlights of these three upcoming events.

SENTOSA SPOOKTACULAR

October is the month for Halloween. Just in Sentosa alone, there's the Halloween Horror Nights 4 at RWS and Sentosa Spooktacular at Fort Siloso. Last year, I've been to Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 and it was really awesome. Read my post for Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 here. Under the partnership with GTH (GMM Tai Hub Co. Ltd.) - one of Thailand's leading movie studio, the trails were really created with the theme of the different Thai Horror movies and was really scary. This year the haunted houses are also based on different Thai Horror movies.

Amara Sanctuary Wedding Show

Did some research on the venue for wedding and came across some really nice wedding photos of other couples taken at the Amara Sanctuary Resort, what really attracts me is their glass pavilion. I would love to have an outdoor solemnization but I can't play God and make sure that it doesn't rain on that day. The glass pavilion at Amara Sanctuary Resort makes a perfect choice as it's situated in the resort's lushly landscaped grounds. It's fully covered and it's air-conditioned. Just nice as I was browsing through their website, I saw that they are having a Wedding Show and thus I RSVP for it.

SOULSCAPE

SOULSCAPE, Singapore's first iconic Yoga and Fitness festival, organised by health and wellness digital magazine and platform - intheLoop will be held on 25 October 2014 (4pm till late) at the Sentosa's Tanjong Beach Club.

This one-of-a-kind evening of discovery will offer Yoga and movement workshops by local and regional instructors, fringe activities, a lifestyle and welllness market, world music and a dance party.

The highlights of the event include a sunset flow and starry night yoga rave session to live beats, an after party with renowned DJs, a holistic lifestyle marketplace, and fringe activities from slacklining to calisthenics. Participants will be decked in luminous body paint and strapped with glowsticks. This night-time Yoga and Music event is definitely going to be a unique blend of health and fitness activities which incorporate different forms of Yoga and functional movement.

This event hopes to gather like-minded people of all ages, Seniors can join in the sunset yoga for a slower paced flow and kids can be kept occupied at their corner with yoga, sandcastle building and arts and crafts.

"We are creating an atmosphere where people will experience something new and unforgettable. It is an evening for them to get-away and explore, be mindful and reconnect with themselves and with nature," says Theresa Shan, Yoga Advisor to intheLoop.

SENTOSA SPOOKTACULAR 2013 : Jointly produced with GTH - Media Preview Night [2/2]

Like I've mentioned in my earlier post (Sentosa Spooktacular 2013: Jointly produced with GTH - Fun Facts [1/2]), though this is the fifth year Sentosa Spooktacular was being organised, 2013 marks the first year I am attending it and also the first year Sentosa collaborated with GTH. Thanks a lot for the invitation!!!

Yes, I'm proud to say that I went through and survived the five horror trail of Sentosa Spooktacular 2013!!! So, here I am still alive and sharing my first-hand personal experience with this blog post.

Our horror journey started from Beach Station whereby I did my registration and boarded the Ghost Rider tram that took us to Fort Siloso. Hehe, glad that we missed the first two bus that looks too normal. Brought Missy Tini along with me for this event. After this event, I found out that she is so much braver than I thought, she never screamed at all throughout the trails.

Arrived at Fort Siloso. Just happened that they've got this black platform for us to stand on. Shu Qing and I looked so small. Lolol~

While waiting for the arrival of the guest-of-honour, Tini spotted something hanging among the trees.

After zooming in. Remember this "ghost" photo ya, later part of the post will have a photo of how it looks like in the dark.

Star Struck moment! Yay! Affectionately known as Ter for his lead role in Hello Stranger and ATM, both movies I've watched and I've blogged about the movies too, somewhere in my blog.

Mr David Goh, Senior Divisional Director of Sentosa Leisure Management and Mr Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, Senior Director of International Business for GTH giving the opening speech. Their opening speech is more like a fun and casual chat.

Mr David Goh talks about how he have to raise the standard each year for fans who are constantly seeking a more immersive experience in Sentosa Spooktacular. So in January, he sent an email to the GTH director. Mr Yongyoot Thongkongtoon replied that he actually got the mail in the junk mail. Luckily they've checked and it proves that Sentosa Spooktacular is really a good platform for them to work with.

Cute Pee Mak hairstyle spotted!

Address by Guest-of-Honour.

The spokespeople and the artistes declaring Sentosa Spooktacular 2013 officially opened!!! Let the horror trail begins!

A few steps into the main entrance and we were greeted by this video montage of the horror films and countdown.

This is the "ghost" spotted among the trees when it was still not that dark. It sure looks 10 times scarier when you look at it at night. Makes great profile pic though. I've changed my Whatsapp profile pic to this immediately at the end of the day. Hahaha. Chat with me, if you dare!

Wondering ghosts! Haha, more for people to take photos with. They don't really go around scaring people too but they are among us.

Shu Qing and I.

Star struck moment for Tini. Her favourite actor is just next to her!!! Hahaha.

DORM

Finally, we've reached the first trail - DORM. The best part about Sentosa Spooktacular is that behind every trail, there's a background story of that trail (based on the horror movie) and we are given a so called mission to complete in the trail.

Haha, while waiting to enter, Missy Tini did this. Supposed to make her look like a ghost or something but, major fail. Oops!

The Dorm trail is set at Saichon Witthaya School whereby Wichien fell and drown in a well.

We get pass the classroom full of ghosts and our mission is to navigate in the dark maze with only a torchlight, at the end of the trail, we have to recite a chant, "Wichien Rest in Peace!" three times to help the spirit of Wichien to reincarnate. It was really scary walking in the dark maze! We went in a group of 8 and only the first person leading has the torchlight. So we have to hold one another's hand tightly in order not to lose anyone in the maze!

 BODY

Despite the long queue outside each trail, there would be a big screen TV outside showing the story and part of the movie. While waiting to enter this second trails, there's people dressed up covering their faces roaming around. Good photo opportunity again. So it's not that bored.

Body is what I felt the longest trail. It's not that much of a scary factor but more that of gruesome and disturbing scenes. I took quite a lot of photos here but most of them are just too disturbing to post up. I'm even contemplating deleting them. This part is when we were walking outdoor around the giant cylinder. I seriously don't dare to look around too much, for fear that I will spot something else. And that cold wind (before that rained) just make us all hastened our pace.

We even have to go through this narrow passageway with body parts hanging on top of us. Oh gosh!!!

Scary!!! I wish I could turn back but there's no turning back! :(

Many of us stopped to take photos of this. That baby in jar looks so real can. Omg!!

The way he screams frighten me.

Our mission here is to lift the curse of Dararai by assembling Dararai's grisly body parts. (gloves not provided)

Haha, the artists seems like having fun while we were like, "Yucks, I don't want to touch that. Must we really assemble the body parts before we can move on?"

SHUTTER

Shutter trail is quite disturbing too. There's lots of very scary photos and there is one stop whereby the clever use of the shutter light was used to create a sort of 3D image. That image will just stay in your brain one ok. This is really mind-blowing. I can't remember what's the mission here as the 3D image keeps flashing in my mind.

After that, we crossed over this bridge to the next trail.

PEE MAK

The Pee Mak trail is basically the shortest and least frightening one.

However, love how they decorated the surrounding to look like the Pee Mak village. Our mission here is to get into the unholy Temple of Dawn and perform a dance ritual (Pee Mak dance) to lay Nak's soul to rest.

COMING SOON

We all agreed that this is the scariest trail out of the five trails. These one part whereby it was so dark we couldn't even see a thing and we don't even have any torchlight with us. Scary factor 5/5. No joke.

Lastly, presenting the 6 brave ladies! The 6 of us were in the same group and we went through the trails together. Surprised that we can still smile so nicely but actually we were all very shagged. From left to right, Jessie, Shu Qing, Me, Missy Tini, Peishi, Rachell~~ Both Peishi and Rachell look so pretty!! Thanks to the photographer for taking this official photo for us! ^^

Map of Fort Siloso. It's best to follow the sequence of the trail in the manner of how we went. I even have the urge to watch all these five Thai horror movies after the trails. So far, I've only watched Shutter before.

If you think that watching the movies in the cinema is not scary at all, try to survive in the scenes at Sentosa Spooktacular. Best event I've attended for Halloween ever. Good luck if you are going!!!
