[Grand Opening] No Signboard Seafood opens the 1st Asian fast food restaurant, the Hawker, at the Esplanade

Singapore is a food heaven and there's no question about it. We are always able to catch up with the latest food trend by bringing in food from overseas. This time, the idea to re-create our own local hawker delights and turned them into fast food burgers was realised. We've seen a version of the nasi lemak burger before however it was just for a short period of time. With the opening of this new fast food chain, these local flavours will remain permanently on the menu.

Opened by No Signboard Holdings Ltd and together with its subsidiaries, the Hawker is the first Asian Fast food restaurant offering hawker-themed Burgers, wraps and buns with a local authentic taste.

The localised food menu has an extensive selection of our local favourite delights such as Chilli Crab Burger, Black Pepper Crab Burger, Hainanese Chicken Rice Burger, Nasi Lemak Burger and Roti Prata Wrap etc. The group aims to secure the Halal certification for the fast food chain as well as relevant permits to operate the chain 24/7. The outlets will also feature self-cashiering point-of sale, free Wifi and charging stations, iPad and automated dessert stations.

I was invited to their closed door Grand opening ceremony at their first outlet at Esplanade. They also had plans to open three more outlet in the different regions of Singapore by early 2019. The outlet at Esplanade itself does not have much seating capacity as they want to tag on the Popular Food Delivery Platforms like GrabFood, Food Panda and Deliveroo to generate more outside sales and not be restricted by the seating capacity for Dine-in Outlets.

They also cater to the breakfast group by having a totally different kind of menu for breakfast. Porridge and You Tiao looks good to start the day!

We started by munching on some of their signature sides and they were so delicious we asked for more servings.

I am a big fan of Chilli crab and since this is the signature dish from No Signboard Seafood Restaurant, I was really looking forward to tasting it. There's two variant to the Chilli Crab dish, one is the Signature Chilli Crab Bun and the other is Mantou with Chilli Crab Sauce. I would prefer the Mantou with Chilli Crab Sauce as the crab patty in the bun is a bit too mashed up.

After trying out all their burgers, the ones that I would highly recommend will be their rice burgers which is the Nasi Lemak Burger and Hainanese Chicken Rice Burger. It taste exactly like the original dishes themselves, because rice were used instead of buns for their burger and they were able to re-create that special rice flavors of this two dish even to the extent of their chilli sauce. One word to describe them  'Shiok'.

Their Sze Chuan Mala Burger wasn't that spicy but you can still feel a bit of the spicy numbness as the after taste.

Aside from the delicious food that was served, we were also introduced to the CEO, the food scientist and the mascot, Hawker Bao Bao, whom also came out for photo taking session with us. There was also a limited edition hawker bao bao comic signed by the CEO himself as our door gift. The comic was the story of hawker bao bao and how this came about.

A grand opening occasion deserve a grand celebration and at 7.18pm, which is their auspicious timing, we gathered at the shop front and witness the official opening with the CEO completing the puzzle, Lion Dance Performance and the appearance of the God of Fortune. Check out the short clip for the counting down and official opening segment.

It was really a joyous occasion and I'm glad to be part of it. Once again, I would like to give a big Congratulation to Hawer QSR. May the business prosper and in time to come expand to the rest of the World to bring our local hawker food overseas.
