Menicon Launches World's THINNEST Daily Disposable Contact Lens : Miru 1 day Menicon Flat Pack

3 July 2013 - Menicon Co., Ltd, Japan's first and largest contact lens and eye care product manufacturer launches "Miru", a daily disposable contact lens pack in Singapore.

I think I've mentioned before I love products from Japan as they are definitely good stuff worth sharing. This time round, I'm going to share about something which I've always been contemplating whether to get it or not, and that is contact lens.

Up till now, I still can't really put on contact lens without feeling uneasy. I've got very dry eyes and I remember once my eyes became so dry that the contact lens flipped into half inside my eyes and fall out! I have to say that my degree for shortsightedness is quite serious so imagine I was shopping halfway with only one side of contact lens intact, I'm like half blind. After that scary incident, I just dumped the contact lens at one side until it expired.

When I received the invitation for this event, I told my colleague, I'm definitely going for this. Maybe this could be the next big changes to my life. Lolol~ Exaggerating but I seriously hope to find a good pair of contact lens for my eyes.

Wearing spectacle has its inconvenience too. I hate it when the spectacle lenses become misty when I stepped out of an air-conditional place to somewhere humid. I hate it that I can't put on make-up because if I take off my spectacle, I can't see a thing. I hate it that I have to position myself right if I want to lay sideways on the sofa to watch TV.

The event was held at Windsor Ballroom at Goodwood Park Hotel and I'm so glad to bump into Rachel and her friend, Daphne there. * Rachel's photos of food on her Instagram always make me drool :D~ ** The signboards we held nicely formed the sentence, "WORLD'S THINNEST MIRU 1 DAY MENICON FLAT PACK WOW!" ^^v

Mr Stephen Donald Newman, Managing Director of Menicon Singapore Pte Ltd sharing with us some of the interesting concepts and features of Miru.

WORLD'S THINNEST

The concept of the packaging of Miru is inspired by that of the plaster or bandage as they call it. The Miru 1 day Menicon Flat Pack is barely 1mm thick, making it the World's thinnest and most compact lens pack and can be easily carried out in the pocket or even a wallet.

ONE TIME USAGE

It's designed for daily disposable use.

EASY TO OPEN

The Miru Flat pack sandwiches the contact lens lightly, but securely between two specially designed super thin foil sheets. This is unlike our typical contact lens cases in which the lenses float freely. The easy to open seal also requires less force to open compared to the conventional case. So even with wet hands, opening the lens pack is not an issue anymore.

SAFE TO HANDLE

When the seal is opened, the slightly compressed lens "raised up" with the outer convex side facing upwards, ready to be placed on the cornea with minimal handling and fuss. It's easy to pick up, without confusion about its orientation or the need to touch the inner surface. This reduces the likelihood of contaminating the lenses and make it more hygienic.

++ THE PLUS POINT ++

Miru is the first contact lens in Japan to utilize HEMA-GMA hioxifilcon A, a polymer material with numerous free radicals that naturally attract and bond with water molecules to ensure moisture retention. This will greatly reduce the incidence of eye lens dehydration. Like what I encountered before, end of day dehydration of soft contact lenses is a vexing problem and this can significantly improve contact lens wearing experience.

In short, the Miru contact lens can be summarized into the four symbols as illustrated in the photo above. The three C's that Miru follows: Convenient, Clean and Comfortable.

How do I look without my spectacles? Today is one of the good days when both my eyes has got double eyelid! Pardon my messy hair and sofa.

Miru is available at major optometrists and optical stores. The lens has a base curve of 8.60 mm and a diameter of 14.2 mm. Miru also comes in powers ranging from -0.50 to -10.00 and retail at SGD 58 for a pack of 30 contact lenses (including tax).

I look forward to receiving the 1 month trial use of this wonderful product. Thank you. ** Photos without watermark are credited to SPRG and Menicon.
