Arthur Newman - Preview Screening at Shaw Preview Theatre

Have you ever felt so lost and tired of your life that you would rather fake your own death and buy a new identity?

That's what the main character in the movie did.

At some point of time, I believe that everyone has this feeling of wanting to escape from reality too. Just that maybe we don't do it so drastically like what the main characters in the movie did. At most, we would just take a short holiday elsewhere. Or a much easier way is to get another identity online.

Directed by:
 Dante Ariola

Starring:
Academy Award® Winner Colin Firth
Golden Globe® Winner Emily Blunt

Genre:
Comedy/Drama

Synopsis

Wallace Avery is tired of his life. Divorced, disconnected from his son, dissatisfied with his love life, he decides the time has come for a radical solution.  He literally walks away from his life, buys himself a new identity as Arthur Newman, and sets out toward his own private Oz  – Terre Haute, Indiana – where he believes he has a chance to work as a golf pro. Wallace’s idea of a second chance is to become a second person. His road trip is derailed by the entrance of Michaela Fitzgerald, whom Arthur discovers passed out poolside at a motel.  It takes her all of a couple hours to bust Arthur’s identity scam.  It takes Arthur a lot longer to bust hers. Colin Firth and Emily Blunt co-star in this gently comic love story set in a perfect storm of identity crisis. ARTHUR NEWMAN, from a screenplay written by Becky Johnston, looks at how two people, desperate to remake themselves, fall in love and find a way to accept responsibility for who they really are.

The plot of the story sounds interesting enough but unfortunately after watching the movie, I was disappointed. It feels like watching an one hour plus video of two runaway person trying to connect with each other. How they break into other people's house, dress up in their clothes and getting frisky while pretending to be the people they're dressed up as.

There is a lack of substance for this movie but I do enjoy watching the role of Mike by Emily Blunt. Her emotions are so deep and feels real. The story ended with them realizing that they can't just run away from life and both went back to their real life.

The movie is rated M18 before the preview screening so expect some bedroom scenes here and there between the both of them.

Rating: 2/5

Look of the day

"If you don't have a life, get someone else's." Since this is a movie about getting new identity, I shall go with the theme too. Just for fun, I've even thought of a new name for myself, Joy Isabella. Lolol~

Right look : Jennifer Love Hewitt
Basically, everything I've learned about life can be sum up in just three words, "It goes on!" There's no point running away from life, instead we should embrace what is coming for us. I guess this is also what the movie is trying to tell the audience too. Yes, you can try to run away for awhile, but you can't do that forever.

 Song of the day

"She said I think I'll go to Boston
I think I'll start a new life
I think I'll start it over
Where no one knows my name..."

The song that comes to my mind after watching this movie.

Lastly, thanks omy.sg for the invitation.
