Dine with nostalgia at St James Food Republic Beer Garden

What used to be a carpark outside St James Power House is now being converted to an open-air hawker called the St James Food Republic Beer Garden.

It's already kinda crowded despite that it's only a Wednesday. Guess there's a lot of curious people trying out the food here.

Free entertainment throughout. The live band is a plus added to make the whole place more lively.

The four of us. Bf only came much later. Enjoyed the eating and chatting session.

The stalls are built on trucks, tricycle and even pushcart to create a 1970s street scene. The varieties of food includes our familiar local dish like Oyster omelette, Hokkien Mee, Mutton Soup, Satay, etc,

Old trishaw.

If you think that you have not drank enough at St James, there's still a street bar outside but remember do not drink too much. Drink in moderations.

These are the food that we ordered. Hokkien Mee, porridge, stingray and satay. For me who is so picky about food, especially hawker food, I find that only the Satay is worth trying. The Hokkien Mee is average. So far, I only liked the Hokkien Mee at Alexandra Village Market which has already closed down as the cook has passed away. The porridge is also normal just like those we can find elsewhere, the stingray is most disappointing, chili is not nice and too dry. I can find better stingray just near my house. So the Satay is the best and must try. There's also unique flavours like prawn and duck satay but I only like the chicken satay.

Have yet to try the food at the Singapore Street Food Hawker at the Singapore Flyer. It's a food centre with similar concept as compared to the beer garden. From reviews read, seems like the food there fares better.
