I'm back at the Yunomori Onsen & Spa, the first and only authentic Japanese onsen with the largest variety of pools in Singapore. Remember my previous blog review on my onsen and spa experience? For a limited period from now till 31st December 2016, come experience 300 years of tradition with Singapore's First-ever Yuzu Bath at Yunomori Onsen & Spa. Soaking in Yuzu bath is practiced by the Japanese from as early as the 18th century on the winter solstice day as they strongly believe that the Yuzu bath can help to ward off winter colds and the common flu. Was told that the Yuzu powder used in the onsen are directly imported from Japan.

THE MANY BENEFITS OF A YUZU BATH

Beside the Yuzu Bath, you can also enjoy other onsen baths, including Soda Bath, Bubble Bath, Jet Bath and Cold Bath. Enjoy all-day access to the Onsen facilities which includes lockers to keep your belongings, towel, use of Puri Alchemy's toiletries at S$38+ only. There is also a Sauna, Steam Room and relaxing lounge area to rest and relax.

Top up an additional fee from S$30+ to S$118+ to add on the authentic Thai spa massage for another 30 minutes to 90 minutes. A great way to rejuvenate!

Head to the Yunomori cafe for some delicious food if you are feeling hungry. They even have a Yuzu themed menu especially created in line with the Yuzu Bath. We tried three of the Yuzu special except the Yuzu Smoothie.

Yuzu Soda (S$5+)

A refreshing iced cold drink that is bound to cleanse your palates. I really enjoy this unique citrusy drink very much.

Yuzu Udon (S$9.80+)

Dip the chilled udon into the cold dipping sauce to be more tasty. The yuzu brings a tangy note to the plain udon.

Yuzu Sorbet (S$4.50+)

Lastly, a Yuzu Sorbet to end the meal. This is not quite to my liking so I just let it melt away.

Beside the Yuzu themed meal, we also tried another two delectable dishes from their menu.

Japanese Assorted Plate (S$17.80+)

I love this cause it has a little bit of everything! Rice, grilled teriyaki saba fish, chicken, pickles, salad, some assorted jellies, miso soup and a small dessert in the shape of a mini butt. What more can you asked for? 

Chicken Karaage Curry (S$13.80+)

The curry is really tasty and not too spicy to the taste buds.

[REVIEW] Yunomori Onsen and Spa Experience

Remember my previous post on the Grand Opening tour of Yunomori Onsen & Spa? I was so impressed with the whole place and I admit that I badly needed some pampering time before my wedding so I booked my first appointment with them right after the tour!

Was on leave and thus I am able to book my appointment on a weekday afternoon. Shall do a quick sharing here on my blog for the whole onsen and spa experience.

#1 THE FACILITIES IS CASHLESS THROUGHOUT

Upon my check-in at the reception counter, I receive this wristband which not only act as the locker key but also a tool to purchase food and drinks at the cafe. It is also used to record any additional treatment and spa services. Payments incurred will only need to be settled upon returning of this wristband during check out.

#2 FREE FLOW HOT GINGER TEA

Available at the ordering counter of the cafe. You can take as many cups as you can drink.

#3 SET MEAL IS BIG ENOUGH FOR SHARING 

That is if you are a small eater. I ordered the Grilled Salmon Plate (S$17.80) and this is the portion I get. They also serve traditional Japanese desserts and light savoury bites which are all freshly prepared on the premises.

#4 CHOOSE YOUR OWN OBI AND YUKATA

I suggest to pick the Yukata robe first and then choose the colour for the obi that either matches or can be of contrast colour so that it's more outstanding.

#5 THE CORRECT WAY TO WEAR THE YUKATA

The correct way to wear the Yukata is to pull the left side over the right side instead of the other way round and for ladies, the OBI is to be wrap under the breasts and not at the waist.

#6 WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE BEFORE ENTERING THE ONSEN

This is the whole set of items that you will receive at the counter before entering the onsen. A set of Yukata with OBI, big towel, small towel, disposable undergarments and shower cap. Take note that you can only bring the small towel and wear the disposable undergarments and shower cap into the onsen area. The rest of the items are to be kept in the locker outside, that includes your hand phone.

#7 YUNOMORI USES PURI ALCHEMY'S RANGE OF SPA PRODUCTS IN ALL TOILETRIES, SPA TREATMENT AND AMENITIES

Puri Alchemy's range of spa products is one of Thailand's leading luxury spa and aromatherapy brands. They are 100% organic and chemical free. This brand has also won numerous awards including Best Professional Spa Product in Thailand Spa & Well-being Awards 2016. Products such as body mask, scrubs and massage oil are available for sale at the outlet too.

#8 ONSEN MANNER ARE TO BE STRICTLY OBSERVED

No hand phones are allowed in this area, so this is a photo taken during the grand opening tour. For hygiene purpose, one need to wash our body clean at this individual shower area before entering the onsen.

#9 THE WHOLE ONSEN EXPERIENCE

No hand phones are allowed in this area, so this is a photo taken during the grand opening tour inside the male onsen area. The whole onsen experience is pretty awesome except for the fact that I went with my bf and he's at the male onsen so I get kind of bored after soaking for a while. It would be good to go with a few friends so that at least can have somebody to talk to. My favourite bath is the Jet Bath as the full body jet is so comfortable and there is the head rest for me to rest my head on. I don't quite like the Bubble Bath as I felt like I'm being cooked inside with the boiling bubbles and I'm super scare of the Cold Bath. Ended up I only step into the Cold Bath but did not dare to soak my whole body inside. I tried stepping in a few times but no just no courage to step in. #10 THE AROMA OIL MASSAGE EXPERIENCE

The spa therapist will personally come and look for you when it's your turn for the spa treatment. I was already at the resting lounge when the spa therapist came looking for me. For the aroma oil massage, I get to choose the oil fragrance I wanted to use. Out of Jasmine, Japanese, Geranium or Lemongrass, I choose Geranium with the recommendation from the spa therapist. It was the most relaxing 90 minutes of massage I had. Unknowingly, I fall asleep. The whole experience could be even better if I did not receive tons of calls and messages for work. If you wish to go for the massage, my advice is to make the booking by phone first instead of walk-in as it is fully booked and reserved by customers in advance.

So grateful and thankful for this complimentary session. Totally loving this place and enjoying myself. One of the best place to relax and unwind to recommend for all to try

[GRAND OPENING] FIRST AUTHENTIC JAPANESE ONSEN - YUNOMORI ONSEN & SPA

Number 1 authentic Japanese Onsen & Spa in Southeast Asia, Yunomori Onsen & Spa opens in Singapore, spanning a total area of more than 16,000 sqft in Kallang Wave Mall! I had the opportunity to try soaking in an authentic Japanese Onsen many years back when I was in Hokkaido and I am so excited to learn that this wonderful and unique onsen experience can now be found in Singapore too! 

Thanks Jessie for bringing me along for their Grand Opening tour. Before we even stepped in to the reception area, we first need to lock our shoes at the lockers provided. I love the feeling of being barefooted, it's as if I'm at home! 

Now we can officially start the tour of Singapore's very first authentic Japanese onsen with the biggest variety of baths. The interior design of Yunomori features a great elements of wood and natural materials to recreate a sense of nature feeling.

YUNOMORI ONSEN

The onsen area in Yunomori is separated into men and women with the women entering on the left and the men to the right. Sorry to say that there is no couple onsen but there is couple room for massages. A total of 11 pools, 6 different pools for men and 5 different pools for the women, each providing a relaxing and therapeutic experience as well as unique health and beauty benefits is available. Today, we were being brought into the male onsen area. 

A big towel and small towel, together with a disposable undergarment is provided. Take note that only the small towel is allowed into the onsen. 

Wearing the Yukata the correct way as demonstrated by the friendly staff. We can wear this and roam around the resting and cafe area to take photos before or after your onsen.

A total of 246 lockets are available complimentary for use to all the guests here. This is to keep our big towel and other belongings.

INTRODUCING THE 6 DIFFERENT TYPES OF BATHS

SILK BATH (TEMP 38.5 - 39.5)

The silky hot water reacts with large amounts of micro-bubble containing hydrogen. These jets of tiny bubbles give the water a sensual and silky texture. The soothing nature of the bath helps to relax the muscles and alleviates problems such as rheumatic, arthritic aches and pains and mental stress. Enjoy the spa treatment and nourish body tissues, tighten the skin and improve skin elasticity.

SODA BATH (TEMP 38.5 - 39.5)

Yunomori's Soda Bath is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Featuring technology imported directly from Japan, the water is enriched with a high concentration of natural carbon dioxide, thus the name Soda bath. Soaking in this CO2-rich water can increase blood oxygen levels, improve circulation, reduce high blood pressure and also detoxify the blood.

BUBBLE BATH (TEMP 38.5 - 39.5)

The Bubble Bath is imbued with the nutrients of carefully balanced minerals. Its arranged temperature and a layer of foam provide a holistic and rejuvenating experience.

JET BATH (TEMP 38.5 - 41)

Let the Jet Bath take away your everyday stress. The full-body jet streams of air can help stimulate blood circulation. 

ONSEN/HOT BATH (TEMP 41 - 44) 

*Only available at the Men Onsen*

Try the Hot Bath at 41 to 44 Degree Celsius to help relief joints and muscular tension as well as detoxify the body.

COLD BATH (TEMP 17 - 19)

End your onsen experience with the Cold Bath after soaking in those hot baths for a while. The cold water will stimulate the body's natural energy and nerve endings. It can also boost anti-ageing effects by closing the pores and tightening the skin. 

OTHER FACILITIES

Sauna and Steam Room are located inside the onsen area. Feel free to enter after your onsen.

SAUNA (TEMP 95 - 100) 

*Only available at the Men Onsen*

The dry heat sauna rises to 95 to 100 Degree Celsius to help encourage sweating for ultimate purification. The heat opens up the pores and cleanses the skin.

STEAM ROOM (TEMP 43 - 49) 

At 100% humidity, the steam room's wet heat opens up the pores and detoxifies the skin and body. It helps to rejuvenate the skin, improves blood circulation, and relax the body and mind.

SPA TREATMENTS

By combining the onsen therapy and Thai spa treatments, one can experience total relaxation and rejuvenation. With the natural healing properties of mineral water and benefits of spa treatments, this place cater to the health needs of everyone from athletes to elderly folks.
