[CARNIVAL] Singapore Bus Carnival at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza

Took a trip down memory lane with Jessie and Shu Qing as we went to the Singapore Bus Carnival held at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. Below is a photo of us in front of a vintage bus which looks like a train.

For me, taking the bus has been my primary source of traveling around. However, I had a history of motion sickness when I was young, it was so bad that even if it's just a 20 minutes bus ride from home to Jurong Point, I would vomit after the bus ride without fail. Gradually, this illness just goes away by itself and now I can take a few hours bus ride without any problem.

This year, the Singapore public bus industry will mark a brand new chapter as they transit to a new contracting model. With bus contracting, we as the commuters can expect more reliable services, shorter waiting times and more comfortable bus rides.

The Singapore Bus Carnival therefore celebrates this milestone by giving the public a glimpse into the past of the industry as well as a peek into what to expect in the future. The carnival is divided into three zones - Past, Present and Future with games and activities suitable for the whole family.

Familiar sight of the bus transit link cards and bus card reader in the past brought back memories of how we used to have to press the different button for different bus fare. Sometimes, we still have to ask the bus driver how much is the bus ride from one destination to another so as not to short change them.

Oh, and these bus tickets sure brings back fond memories of how we would fold them into hearts during class. Beside that, we would also sum up the 4 digits at the corner, if it adds up to 21, it would be a lucky day ahead.

We also get to enter and explore the two future buses that are on display at the carnival - Concept Bus A and Concept Bus B.

How the interior of the future bus might looks like if this concept is being finalized. Basically, some of the major changes they are thinking of implementing in the buses in future is to have two staircases, one for getting up and the other for getting down. Next is to have this charging port at every seat. Cheers to that! I think this is what everybody will look forward to, since running out of battery on our smart phone is quite a big first world problem.

There's also other activities like making a bus model from cardboard as well as getting your hands to be a bus captain for the day behind a bus simulator. Didn't get to try these as it was super long queue. So for those who've missed out on this carnival, there's still a chance for you to go down to the one at Toa Payoh HDB Hub from 1st - 3rd April 2016. Admission is free.

XOXO
