PantoneMyArt 2014: 3D in Colour at TCC Circular Road

Art-Supporting TCC at 51 Circular Road is the venue of this year's PantoneMyArt 2014 exhibition. Featuring works from 8 artists expressing optical illusions in predominant Pantone colours of their choices, these art works are set to create the 3D illusion effect to visitors.

Had my dinner there and at the same time explore the two-storey art boutique cafe. Just like the currently popular Trick-Eye Museum and Alive Museum, visitors are encouraged to interact and take photos with the artworks.

Angel of Steel by Lim Zi Sin (White)

"With a strong will, a child with autism tries his best to blend into a world that is of complete difference to his. Everything is pretty straightforward; to like or to dislike, life is simple and clear. Just like the blocks of life and a strong pair of wings that soar through the windows of obstacles. The artwork aims to explore the contrast between the bold geometric shapes and the fragility of paper. Like an angel, let us rise up, and soar."

Playing Soldier by Ben Qwek (Orange)

"When Ben thinks of orange, he thinks of the sunset and it brings him back to his childhood. This artwork pays tribute to the time when he remembers playing soldier at the void deck in his younger days, and also represents how youths enlist themselves into the army, not for a noble cause but for money."

"This body of work incorporates an array of wing-like structure. The wings are a visual metaphor for how the body finds freedom; alchemy, fantasy and fascinations that often drive us in ways we cannot understand or perceive. Positive or negative interpretations will depend on the person who poses in front of it. Other than that, everyone wants to have wings and fly high."

Organik by Dale (Lime Green)

"Lime green is the choice of Dale's colour. It is the colour of balance and harmony. It is the great balancer of the heart and emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart. Dale created this piece both to hone his skills in 3D, as well as to capture the discreet lighting. This particular medium is chosen for its reflective quality and varying appearance. When attempting to create a piece that looks natural, flowing, soft, peaceful, or calming, organic patterns are generally the shapes of choice."

Singularity by Race (Black)

"This piece is exciting as it focuses on one of Race's favourite subject matter: cityscapes, in a nice analogue format and at a large scale. Working with such a large scale has allowed him to explore perspective in order to make viewers really feel like they are standing somewhere else. The windows on the wall are also utilised to give a second view at a different angle, laid over the actual city of Singapore. These ideas are central to Race's current running theme about how technology is creating many different realities."
