Watching Taboo on #okto - Vampires, Snatching of wifes, Vow of Marriage, Sacrifices for love

It's another interesting episode of Taboo!

A brief summary of today's episode

1. California L.A.

The existence of Vampires are true. However, they are not like what we see in the movies whereby they dig their vampire teeth into the neck and suck the blood of the victim. Instead in Califonia L.A, the male "vampire" would use a knife to cut through the flesh of his girlfriend and drink the blood from there. The drinking of blood of their partner is considered romantic and sexual. Somewhat reminds me of Twilight the movie.

Below is a link that teach you how to look like a Twilight Vampire. Heehee. Cool.

2. African - Sahara Dessert.

A male beauty pageant was conducted and good looks give the guys a chance to steal another man's wife. The main settlement called Wudabi and they are mostly nomadic. To them there's usually two marriages; One is when the parents arrange for them when they were 2 - 3 years old. The other is during this male pageant dance festival. During the dance, the women and men would drop hints to let each other know if either party is interested in them or not. If both are interested in each other, the man would attempt to went to the woman house and "steal" her away. This is legal and the woman can leave with him provided the woman's husband didn't found out. If on the way back, the husband found out, the husband have the right to fight his wife back. If the woman successfully go to the guys house the husband has no more right. It is alright for the men to have many wifes but when the wife is pregnant the wife must go back to their parents house for 3 - 4 years.

(Couldn't find any photos of their male pageant online. However, I thought it's really a unique way to get a second wife by stealing. The guy must really love the woman alot since there's also some risk involved just in case the husband found out and a fight broke out between them. )

3 . Australia - Melbourne

Normally, marriage vows are exchanged during the wedding ceremony in the presence of a witness. However, there's this guy who decided to carve the shape of the left palm of his wife to his chest area. Not tattoo on, but carved out leaving a permanent scar. The scar serves as his vows to be forever with his wife and be faithful and loyal. Since the scar will forever be there and cannot be removed.

Photos below are forwarded to me previously through e-mail.

4. USA - California.

A small part of women here falls in love with guys in prison. They contact through writing mails and the occasion prison visit. Full of hope, the women would wait till the days the guys came out of jail. Foolish to some since there's will always be some prejudice as to whether this inmate would really turned over a new leaf when they were released. However, to some psychiatrist, they felt this is a good way for letting the inmate change as they have someone to look forward to seeing when they are out.
