[Explore] Goodman Open House - The Play-Full Edition

Goodman Arts Centre Open House Day

Goodman Arts Centre is an arts hive nestled along Mountbatten Road. It is the home of the National Arts Council as well as several artists and arts groups. Together with Rena, we had an arty day out as I had registered for some free performances online.

Being the first time there, I was initially lost as the place was really huge. I've registered for 3 Black Box Performance but was late for the first one and too early for the second one. So we went to The Artground and spent our free time having fun there.

Happy Homebodies at The Artground till 15 September 2019

Happy Homebodies is an interactive play space featuring common objects that can be found at home and how they are creatively transformed into a fun experience for the kids. Crawl through a washing machine, slide down a bed and jump into a laundry basket.

The magic of this exploration is to allow the children to make new discoveries of the ordinary objects around us. It's really quite fun for the little curious minds. The simple black and white colour scheme is easy to the eyes and after exploring all corners of the play space, my girl's favourite is still the slide.

There's also an enclosed area with safety gates suitable for babies till 36 months. It's a place for sensory fun as the babies can get to touch and feel different materials and a mini slide too.

Free Outdoor Activities at the Open Field

There were several outdoor activities and we happened to catch the Dicapella Dizi Ensemble performing to some familiar Chinese and English pop tunes. After that, it started to rain very heavily and I'm not so sure if the rest of the performances did carry on as per schedule.

Free admission to the Black Box Performances

I was really looking forward to the time for us to enter the Black Box Performances like I've mentioned I've already registered for the tickets online.

The first one we attended was "Hug The Tree" by Paper Monkey Theatre. It was a Puppet Theatre Performance. The performance is about a girl named Amrita who loved the trees in the forest and protected the trees from being cut down just like how the trees had protected her home from the desert sandstorm. This story was inspired by an old Indian folktale. Rena had fun playing peek-ka-boo with one of the older girl there after that she got restless so we left without finish watching the whole performance.

The next performance was "Sita's Magical Forest" by Apsaras Arts. Readapted from the celebrated Ramayana epic, Sita's Magical Forest is a dance-drama which tells the trails and triumphs of Rama and Sita. This is a more interactive performance and kids were allowed to go up and mingled with the performers and also helped out in some segments. As such, I think Rena enjoyed this better as she is one who couldn't sit still.

All day activities for the whole families

Meanwhile, there's also Giant Games by Mural Lingo and Caricature Drawing by Kamal Arts and Upbeat! by Musical Playhouse happening throughout from 11am to 5pm.

Dinner at Cafe Melba

We stayed at The Artground till it was about closing time before hubby came to meet us. We settled our dinner at Cafe Melba which is just located inside Goodman Arts Centre. Only the Mac & Cheese was nice. Rena dozed off in her chair as it was so windy and cooling. She also missed her usual afternoon nap.

"They told us they want bright, clear and helpful packaging that will stand out in a cluttered aisle. And we know they love Mr. Energizer™, so we've make sure consumers will get more of him and his larger-than-life personality everywhere, from in-store to our advertising."

This new changes also represent the first major update to the Energizer® look since 2008 and will be make effective across the entire Energizer® portfolio, starting with the batteries.

Even the iconic Mr. Energizer™ has evolved to a brand new look. Mr. Energizer™ is the embodiment of physical energy, a living Energizer® battery who's always being spotted with a wink and a smile and always up for a new challenge or a friendly competition. He's an animated character who lives in the real world and marvels at it with curious enthusiasm. His lasting endurance and fun-loving personality reflect the spirit of the Energizer® brand.

A fun-filled afternoon of food, games and magic show

Upon reaching Canvas Club, a good spread of welcome reception was already lined up for us. Despite us already taken our lunch, we still took some quick bites.

There's even a photobooth for us to take GIF photo.

Ms. Diane Lee, Business Director, Malaysia and Singapore gave the welcome speech and mentioned how the new brand identity would help Energizer® continue to become the chosen brand for consumers.

Ms. Gwen Nam, brand manager of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia came up next to introduce the new Max Plus range and explained why the brand needs to evolve even though they were leading in most of the segments. There was a need to stay relevant  as consumer needs were changing.

Witnessed the official launch and took a short video clip.

After which, we played a mass kahoot game where 15 questions were posted on the screen. Players not only had to be accurate with their answers but also fast enough! The fastest and correct answer would give more points and would be accumulated till the end of the game to determine the winner. I'm quite lucky to win second prize in this game with 11 correct answers and had the chance to go up to the stage to receive an additional prize.

However, that's not the end of the event yet as we were further entertained by a magic show performance put up by Singapore's award-winning digital magician. He was also the winner of Singapore's first Golden Buzzer on Asia's Got Talent. Quite amazing!

Official Group Photo

A group photo was taken with the management and also the iconic Mr. Energizer™ at the end of the event. Glad to be part of the launch event and I really welcome the new look which has definitely improved the overall visual appeal of Energizer®.

[Explore] Trip to Kiddomo Discovery Educational Indoor Playground at R&F Mall, Johor Bahru

Kiddomo Discovery Innovative Indoor Playground

Kiddomo Discovery is a newly opened indoor playground located just minutes away from the Johor Bahru custom at the R&F Mall. Designed for children to learn and have fun through play and technology, Kiddomo Discovery is suitable for kids from age 2 to 15 years old.

Having won tickets for the whole family from a giveaway, I decided to organise it as a play date with CF and her family for a midweek gateway since it was a public holiday. Was really looking forward to this day as I love bringing my girl out to explore new places and I try to do this as much as I could on days when I'm not working.

The girls are already fascinated by the light projection at the entrance
Opps, the girls are standing at the wrong side!
Yes, now they are on the right side!

With 11 different experiences at Kiddomo Discovery, I planned to just let the kids have fun there the whole afternoon. After the check in at the counter, we proceed to keep our belongings at the lockers provided and we were each given a smartband to wear.

Lots of lockers to put our belongings and shoes. Only allowed to wear socks inside.

1. KIDDOMO HEROES STATION

This is the start of our adventure as we scan our smartband to register, take a nice selfie and create our own superhero here. This customized superhero avatar will represent us and we will need to use the smartband to activate some of the games to accumulate points.

2. DISCOVERY STATION

This is the giant ball pool area with many giant hidden dinosaur eggs among the balls. By right, we are able to discover the dinosaur species when we use it to scan at the interactive scanners but the scanner was down on that day. My girl still enjoys herself a lot in the ball pool and trying to pick up the giant eggs.

3. COLLECTION STATION

This is the interactive station where we get to recall our customized superhero onto the projection screen and use our body movements to control it to collect quest items! It's may seems easy but it's actually quite tiring as we have to keep flapping our hands like flapping the wings to make the character fly. Had a friendly competition with my husband here and obviously he won cause he started playing first. Rena tried to imitate us but she's too short to be detected so not able to play the game.

4. FITNESS STATION

A very fun station that most kids will love as they crawl through the Musical Maza and slide down to collect galaxy stars to compete for the highest score. It's something like Fruit Ninja comes alive. My girl only tried it once and she was a bit afraid of it but the older kids can play this continuously.

5. POWER RIDE STATION

Ride on the stationary bike and travel through the different galaxy on the screen. This is more for the older kids too.

6. PERFORMING STATION

The station where we get to show off our singing skills, two microphones are provided and the song list is quite limited as they are mainly kids songs. We can also choose the background where we want us to appear on the big screen. Everything in the room was displayed live at the TV outside so anyone walking past the TV can actually see you dance inside the room. We felt that the tempo of the songs was a bit too fast for even the adults to catch up.

7. MAGIC STATION

More suitable for older kids to adults too. At this station, we have to fight the dragon with our magical wand.

8. CREATIVE STATION

Kids were able to choose from the four transportation template to colour and watch them magically come alive on the big screen after it was completed and scanned using their machine. This is the first time I see something like this and it's quite interesting.

9. KIDDOMO CAFE

A variety of food for adults and kids, we didn't get to try the cafe here. We ate at  Routine by Soon, a very modernized cafe. Check out my instagram post here.

10. BABY GYM (UNDER 3 YEARS OLD)

Baby gym is a safe to play area for babies under 3 years old.

11. PAMPERING STATION

The pampering station is where the resting pods with USB charging port are available. This is also the station where we hang out at most of the time. There's also lots of toys here for the kids to play while the adults can rest in the pods.

Occasionally, workshops are also being held. While we were there, there was the slime making workshop and we participated in it.

Overall, I felt that my girl is still too young to get the full experience from this Indoor Playground.  Nevertheless, it was still a great outing with CF and her family and my girl enjoys the toys and slime workshop pretty much too. It gets pretty crowded during the later part of the day. The slime workshop was full house. We took a total of 200+ photos from my handphone and CF's handphone, thus it took me a while to sort out the photos.
