[EVENT] New Year, New Wishes with 313@Somerset

In Singapore, we are not allowed to release sky lanterns into the sky, which is actually one of the more popular things to do when you are in certain part of Taiwan. Traditionally, sky lanterns are lighted up with wishes handwritten on it and released into the sky with the hope that what you wished for will come true.

This Chinese New Year, at 313@Somerset, shoppers are invited to release their own sky lanterns, digitally though. I went to release mine while checking out the rest of the activities there at the atrium. As you can see, the whole mall is already beautifully decorated with the sky lanterns.

I took a selfie with the one marked as "safety" which is currently most appropriate for me as I would be flying off to Shanghai in another 11 hours time and I wished for a safe flight and trip.

There's a total of 4 iPad stations with the CNY iWish app that allows shoppers to pen wishes onto the colourful sky lanterns and release them to the sky, digitally on a 8m x 3m LED screen inside the mall and would be available till 6 February 2016. This interactive display is an initiative with Codigo, an award winning development company for digital application, that gained success through initiative such as iDragon.

There is a total of 8 different designs to choose from and I choose the pineapple one to match my wishes at the next screen.

After selecting the background design, next we will choose the well wishes we want to add in. The well wishes represent romance, career, prosperity, etc.

And my digital sky lantern is ready to be released and shared! As I've signed in via Facebook, my facebook profile photo was shown on top of the virtual lantern like this and I got to share the sky lantern with greetings with my friends on Facebook.

There is no limit in the number of lanterns one can create and release and it is free for all so I created three. Yellow one for prosperity, pink one for romance and a blue one for career!

Behind the virtual wall, there is also a physical Wall of Wishes for those who prefer to have something more permanent. Simply grab a lantern-shaped paper cut-outs and write or draw your wishes on them and hang them on the wall. Your friends can come and find your cards, share on social media and win vouchers. I drew a simple monkey face for the monkey year.

The official hashtag for this event is #313CNY. Stand to win prizes when you use this hashtag.

May all my wishes come true this year!

Ending my post with a nice snapchat filter. ^^

[LIFETIME] Man vs Child: Chef Showdown - Meet & Greet with Estie Kung

A+E Networks' Lifetime on StarHub TV Channel 514 will present a new cooking competition series called MAN VS CHILD: CHEF SHOWDOWN. If you love watching how great chefs pits their culinary skills, this is a show that you wouldn't want to miss.

What makes this series even more interesting is that it's a showdown between some of the world's most talented young cooks against those professionally trained, adult chefs. Which means that some of these adult chefs would have actually been cooking much longer than their young challengers have been alive!

This 13-episode series hosted by chef and television personality Adam Gertler will see a team of five up-and-coming child cooking wunderkids - Estie (8), Dylan (11), Emmalee (12), Cloyce (13) and Holden (14) - competing against a different chef each week.

Every episode is made up of three rounds of cooking set to test the competitors' abilities and mastery in the kitchen, from making sausages from scratch to preparing the perfect omelet. The kids will nominate a team-mate to compete in each challenge.

In the first two rounds, resident judges and commentators (chef-restaurateur Mike Isabella and private chef to the stars Alia Zaine) will taste the dishes to determine which chef has created the most delicious and inventive plate. The winner of each of the first two events will be awarded an advantage in the next round which includes preventing their competitor from tasting their food as they prepare it and forcing them to take a ten-minute break during the allotted cooking time. The final round will feature a blind taste-test by a world-renowned master chef such as Hubert Keller and Ludo Lefebvre that will determine the ultimate winner - the professionals or the youthful contenders.

As part of the promotional tour for the show's launch, there was a 'Meet-and-Greet' event of Estie Kung, the youngest chef on the show at IKEA Alexandra/Tampines on the 17th Jan 2016. Together with Jessie and Meryl, we met at Bedok to have our lunch before taking the free shuttle service from Bedok bus stop to Ikea Tampines for this event.

The precocious Kung, who is half-Chinese is said to have started cooking at the age of 3 and she cooked her first dish at age 4! She was only 7 years old when she appeared in the show and she turned 8 this year. At that age, I haven't even learnt how to cook an egg! Some of the questions thrown at her and her answers.

Qns: What's your favourite dish in Singapore?
Ans: Bundung.

Qns: How did you travel to Singapore?
Ans: By Business Class.

Qns: What do you see yourself in 20 years time?
Ans: To have her own cookbook, restaurant and TV Show. For her restaurant, it would be Something French.

She's really adorable and answered all the questions thrown at her like a big adult. Managed to get her signature too. We didn't get to see her show off her cooking skill live but we did catch the first episode of the show, aptly titled "Don't Under-ESTIE-mate Her", in which she whips up a Korean fried chicken dish with kimchi mayonnaise and a gochujang gastrique. Check out my Instagram (@chewyjas) for some of the Estie's videos taken during the meet-and-greet session.

Estie also create exclusive recipes using IKEA's salmon and vegetable balls. These recipes will be available at IKEA' Singapore's Swedish Food Market for a limited time from 17 Jan 2016.

With the $5 Ikea gift card I received, I went to try the dishes out. On the left is the vegetable balls with curry sauce while on the right is the salmon. Very filling.

There is also a #JustAKid campaign in celebration of children on Lifetime with the aim of showcasing exceptional kids who prove that what young ones lack in experience, they can make up for with creativity and enthusiasm.

Thanks Meryl for the group photo
So don't forget to tune in to find out if raw talent and imagination is enough to trump over years of training and decades of experience. It will be a great entertainment for the entire family.

Man VS Child: Chef Showdown
Premieres on 26th January 2016
Tuesday at 7pm
(with a primetime repeat at 10pm)

[Outing] Fun time at Alive Museum @ Suntec City

Angels brought me here to the Alive Museum and transformed me into a happy angel. As part of their attraction's yearly renewal, Alive Museum had recently added in two brand new themed zones - Live.Laugh.Love and Young @ Heart. Together with my other 5 friends, we had a fun time taking photos inside, even though this is my second time there, I still enjoyed myself very much as this time round, it's with a different group of friends with lots of new exhibits.

NEW ~ LIVE.LAUGH.LOVE ZONE

Wanna go for a ride in my awesome SGD 8888 wedding car?

Hopped in! A car full of pretty ladies!

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can

LOVE, only a four letters word but can be so wonderful to some yet complicated to others.

Autumn's fairy tale.

In a love boat with sis Kart! Super funny.

A super awkward proposal.

Why you so heavy?? Took this photo and NG a lot of time but have to continue cause they say acting also must act the full series.

Meryl + Elaine = Red heart for friendship

NEW ~ YOUNG @ HEART ZONE

Us in the cartoon book of Alive Museum.

Loving how vibrant the red flowers are.

My friends say this photo can be turned into a Birthday greeting e-card.

Put your hands up in the air like you just don't care!

SAME ~ SOME OF MY FAVOURITES

So beside the two new themed zone, there's the familiar exhibits that still remains. Below are a few of my favourites.

Laugh until cannot jumping at this small trampoline. Hope somebody will organize a trip to the Trampoline Park soon! Hehe.

Yes, I always dream of myself being a big, friendly giant.

As usual, like the previous time we visited, we were the last group to leave and being a weekday night, it was not as crowded and we were happily taking our own sweet time to explore. One part of the Alive Museum is still under renovation though. Really thankful to Alive Museum for the invitation. Thank you my friends for joining me and this is one outing I only took like 3 photos at the entrance only! Photos all credited to the rest of my friends. THANKS!!!
