[Event] Touring of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore and Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski with Social Humanoid Robot, Sophia and Class 95 FM’s DJ duo, Muttons

Located at the corner of the junction of Stamford road, in Singapore's civic and cultural district is The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore which was restored and redeveloped from the iconic Capitol Building and Stamford House.

A quintessential masterpiece of beautifully conserved architecture uplifted with a modern touch and bespoke hospitality, this exclusive retreat promises luxury at its finest. Timely yet contemporary, the hotel features 157 guestrooms and suites, a lobby lounge, an outdoor saltwater relaxation pool, a fitness centre and spa. an exclusive event space as well as a haven of culinary delights such as bars and restaurants.

Together with Sophia the Social Humanoid Robot and Class 95 FM's DJ duo, Vernon A and Justin Ang, of the Muttons in the Morning show, we took a tour of the hotel and the dining offerings at the Arcade.

We were all very much looking forward to meet Sophia knowing that she's a robot and this was her first night out to The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore and Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski. Sophia first wowed the world in 2016 as the brainchild of Hong Kong based company Hanson Robotics Limited with her ability to express a broad range of human emotions through her facial expressions and gestures and engage in delightful conversations. She is known to be able to display more than 50 facial expressions and has since been touring around the world to cover many high-profile interviews. She is also the World's first robot to hold citizenship and an Innovation Champion of the United Nations Development Program in Asia Pacific.

Before the tour, Vernon A and Justin Ang had a friendly Q&A session with Sophia and she proves to be quite a conversationalist and eloquent which was really impressive.

Check out the video above for the whole official Q&A session. After that, they also opened up the Q&A session to the floor. one of the burning question asked was why she doesn't put on a wig.

My question to her was a request to sing for us and she actually counter offer that by saying that she's now so famous and I would have to pay her a lot of money to sing. What a smart answer! We found out what was her thoughts on how robots of her generation can better predict and customise the F&B options for guests.

The tour started with us visiting the international F&B destinations at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore - 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung and The Bar at 15 Stamford. Next we walked back to the Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski to visit the Frieda Restaurant, Berthold Delikatessen and Capitol Milk Bar. We were also told that three other restaurants - Chalerm Thai, La Scala Ristorante and El Teatro will be opening soon. Here's a little introduction about each F&B establishments.

15 STAMFORD BY ALVIN LEUNG

15 Stamford by Alvin Leung at The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore is Chef Alvin Leung's latest gastro-adventure to rock the Lion City. The London-born chef shot to fame for his multi-faceted cuisine at three Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong, using rule-breaking culinary rebellion as his personal brand. At 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, Chef Leung has taken inspiration from his years of walking through Asia to pay humble tribute to Asian cuisine.

The "Bak Kut Teh" Pork Prime Rib with Compressed Watermelon, Angelica, Barbecue Sauce (S$58) is slow-cooked at 75 degrees Celsius for over 12 hours. The tender pork prime ribs are then glazed with Bak Kut Teh barbecue sauce and served with infused Angelica syrup and compressed watermelon for an earthier reminiscent of the popular Malaysian-styled Bak Kut Teh.

THE BAR AT 15 STAMFORD

Within 15 Stamford is a bar where diners can simply pull up a stool and immerse in the largest collection of rum offerings in Singapore. This 80-seater storied bar is a reimagination of the glory days of the country as a sailing port where traders, merchants and sailors congregated for a drink.

The bar menu (cocktails priced from $18++ to $24++) is divided into Before Voyage, Explorer's Favourites and Explorer's Signature. Cocktail lovers will find a range of gins, piscos, vermouths, cachaca and of course rums that are expertly incorporated into both tall tropical coolers and spirit-forward libations.

Come during weekend and the place is transforms into a lounge with the tunes of some of the finest DJs from around the world, including Matty Wainwright, Brandon P., and Joey Fitzgerald.

CAPITOL MILK BAR

Bringing back the golden era of the '60s, the All-American-themed diner is a first ever "recreation" of the Magnolia Snack Bar from back in the 1960's in that stood proud in the old Capitol Building. It aims to bring back that wholesome family fun diner experience but with a revamped menu of classics with a contemporary twist reflective of our times. Enjoy the classic setting from the '60s with accent wall tiles, silestone table and counter tops, and ceramic mosaic flooring. The vintage posters and neon lights are sure to bring you back into the golden old era.

Enjoy Burgers and Sandwiches that comes with a choice of charcoal brioche bun, multi-grain bun or sesame wheat bun, all made fresh in house. The crowd favourites here is The "Capitol" Burger that comes with pulled pork, arugula, pickled cucumber, yuzu cabbage slew and apple butter barbecue sauce.

The old-school hot dogs are made with simple pork sausage, mustard, ketchup, cucumber relish and crispy onions as in the case of The Classic "New Yorker".

BERTHOLD DELIKATESSEN

Berthold Delikatessen brings the best of traditional German delicatessen and classic European-style cafes under one roof. Located on the ground floor of the Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski, Berthold Delikatessen allows guests the option of sitting within the main dining space, in the alfresco area, or at the mezzanine level, perfect for people-watching during a light lunch.

An assortment of sandwiches and salads are available for dining in. Berthold Delikatessen also offer an extensive daily selection of German-style breads, rolls and pastries or quiches, pies and cakes to complete the deli experience. Paired with gourmet coffee of either the Andraschko German blend or local Berthold blend for an ideal afternoon tea or take home enjoyment.

FRIEDA

Frieda serves authentic German cuisine with a modern twist. Frieda was named after the daughter of Kempinski founder, and its inspiration is to create an experience where guests could feel a sense of belonging no matter how far they travelled. It is the spirit of warmth that permeates the restaurant with its three distinct spaces designed to serve every guests' needs.

Right at the heart of the restaurant is Frieda's Day Bar that was inspired by Berlin's urban style. It is perfect for enjoying Abendbrot, a casual evening meal, with a pint of ice-cold German beer on tap. A cosy, intimate dining experience awaits at Frieda's Dining Room, and the enchanting botanical-themed Frieda's Garden sets the stage and provides for a romantic evening.

The menu at Frieda is a reinterpretation of traditional German cuisine with Austria influences. One of the mains that diners can look forward to is the Pan-Fried Rainbow Trout (S$35) that comes with baby spinach and parsley potatoes.

After the tour, we went back to the Frieda's Garden where we were served with some light bites from the existing establishments.

Glad that I attended this event as it was really a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet Sophia the Robot and interact with her. The F&B options also seems like a nice place for hangouts and gatherings. Will definitely love to be back again with my friends.

XOXO
