NP50 Charity Performance - A Past to Cherish, A Future to Behold

Though it's been some years since I've graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I still love to go back to the campus occasionally to relive the good old days I had there. Ask me again If I have a chance to choose between going to a JC or Poly, I would still choose to go to a Polytechnic.  Love the flexibility of timetable, how we can wear comfortably to school, how we are exposed to work related situations and such.

Even though I think my face can still posed off quite well as a student but the feeling of returning back as an alumni is just not the same. Now, I'm more like a visitor strolling leisurely around and absorbing the changes around me.

Yes, the whole campus have changed a lot, with lots of improvements and much more options for food. Some of my favourite food stalls in Canteen 1 are gone but luckily the sandwich shop at the atrium is still there. There's even shuttle bus to shuttle students internally around the campus! During my time, we have to walk so many uphill slopes to get to certain places.

To keep myself updated, I always read the emails NP Alumni sent out. So, I was quite excited when I came across the email subject

"NP Celebrates 50th Anniversary - You are Invited!"

A number of events in celebration of Ngee Ann Poly turning 50 this year have been outlined in the email and I've decided to attend the NP50 charity performance which falls on Labour Day. Just nice, no need to work.

Randomly bought the tickets and even took leave to collect them. Well, my leave that day was very well-spent, so it's ok. I thought I wanted to take this opportunity to meet up with some old friends but they are all too busy. Shall meet them for dinner next time.

What is this charity performance all about? Turning 50 this year is a major milestone with a great past to cherish for Ngee Ann Poly. So in a spirit of gratitude, and to give back to the community, Ngee Ann Poly has pledged to contribute 1,000 staff man-days to serve the  community groups and raised $1 million for charitable causes. As such, all tickets proceeds from tonight's Charity Performance will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Student Aid Fund. I'm glad to be able to be a small part even though I'm just an audience.

In this 90 minutes music and dance performance, the audiences got to see the history of Ngee Ann Polytechnic unfold. The orchestra performed the song 雾锁南洋 and it suited the opening theme.

Act 1 : The Beginning, The Realisaation

A detailed timeline of Ngee Ann Poly history can be found at : http://www.np.edu.sg/np50/Documents/content/history.html

With a 1960s setting, the opening act trace back on how Ngee Ann College is established and also its search for an institutional identity. So we see the dancers all in retro clothes.

Act 2 : Development of Ngee Ann Polytechnic (Past, Present and Future)

As Ngee Ann College evolves into Ngee Ann Polytechnic, education is redefined to develop students to be ready for the global workforce.

This is one of my favourite part. Inline skating in the dark! Very cool one. Managed to take a short video. Watch it below :

Tonight's performance features a lot of performers from the following CCA Clubs but none are from the CCA club that I joined. Kinda regret not joining a more sporting CCA previously.

* B-Boys & Girls * Cheerleading * Chinese Dance * Chinese Drama * Chinese Orchestra * Contemporary Dance * DanceSport * Dragon Boat * English Drama * Hip Hop * Inline Skating * Japanese Cultural Club * Dragon and Lion Dance * Percussion * Photography * Silat * Stage Production * Taekwondo * Ultimate Frisbee * Voices * Wushu *

And a very exciting performance of the cheerleading video :

PRO! Really bring on the cheers!

Act 3 : Celebrating NP50

The final segment is the celebration of the hard work and dedication of all the students and staff.

With Bro. Enjoyed myself today. Also wish to thanks the guy who threw a prize to me but I didn't catch it and he still went to pick it up and passed to me. Thanks a lot!

We are all alumni of Ngee Ann Poly.

Me again! Hehe.

Lastly, take a look at how the Ngee Ann Crest has changed over the years. Hope to go back to the campus soon for more of such events.
