[Event] InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts Celebrates its Milestone of Reaching 200th Hotels Worldwide

The opening of InterContinental® Shanghai Wonderland has made it to the World's first underground quarry hotel and also marks the 200th property of the luxury hotel brand InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts.

To celebrate this significant milestone, InterContinental® Hotels & Resorts partners with London-based contemporary artist Alexander Hall also known under the alias Haut de Gamme© to create a stunning art installation made from 200 champagne bottles individually hand-painted in Alexander's usual bright and energetic drip-style and abstract form.

Each champagne bottle is unique and was inspired by the different InterContinental® property's personality, design and location. The finished bottles are suspended together to reveal the number '200' and will be displayed at different InterContinental® hotels and resorts around the world.

As part of the 200 InterContinentals landmark celebrations, InterContinental Singapore - the brand's flagship luxury hotel in Southeast Asia has organized a cocktail event held at the Presidential Suite today, I was delighted to be invited and was able to witness 68 of the 200 beautiful bottles being on displayed all over the presidential suite. And this is also my first time stepping into the presidential suite which is so posh that I just have to take more photos for memories.

A panel discussion was held. From left to right: Host Yasminne Cheng, Alexander Hall and Michael Martin, Regional General Manager, Singapore and Batam. We were so fortunate to meet Alex Hall here which was also his first time in Singapore. He shared with us more about this art installation he was commissioned to create, from the planning stage to the physical process, how he did the researches while coming up with the ideas of what to paint on the champagne bottles. All in all, it took him 6 days and 6 nights of pure adrenaline to finish all the 200 bottles and at the end of everything he still went to attend his best friend weddings.

It didn't take us too long to spot the bottle that represent InterContinental Singapore. When asked what is the inspiration behind this red, glittery design, Alex Hall mentioned that he wanted it to look clean, simple and to the point. Furthermore, red is one of the colours of our National flag. As he felt that Singapore is about the glitz and glamour so he also sprinkle the diamond dust as a finishing touch.

During the Q&A session, someone from the floor asked which bottle took him the longest to paint, and it was this Mr Monopoly bottle representing InterContinental Osaka. It took him the longest from thinking of what design to painting it.

Champagne bottles are chosen as it symbolizes joy and celebration. There was really too many so I will just post those I quite like personally. He even came out with a painting.

We had some drinks and canapes prepared by Chef Eric, even the desserts look like artwork too.

We also had a fun time painting our own Macaron with Alex Hall.  It was actually a mini competition whereby Alex Hall will be the final judge to pick three marcaron which caught his eyes. What we did wrong was to use the same paintbrush for all the different colours and end up the paint was all mixed up.

Here's our creation!

This is Alex Hall's creation!!

These three are picked by Alex Hall as the winning Macarons and the winners got to bring home one of his painting!

Three words to describe this event like the three words Alex Hall used to describe his art installation - fun, energetic and spontaneous. Congratulation to InterContinental Hotels & Resorts on the 200 milestone achievement.

XOXO
