[Explore SG] Food Folks @ Lau Pa Sat

Somewhere in November last year, FairPrice Group opened Food Folks @ Lau Pa Sat, this new opening brought along another type of vibrancy and life to Lau Pa Sat as many of the stalls in Lau Pa Sat has closed down after the lockdown was lifted.

Limited Lau Pa Sat Kopitiam Card given out by Food Folks upon spending of minimum $20 at Food Folks during one of the campaign they had last December

During that period, there were lots of 1-for-1 promotions going on to attract the CBD lunch time crowd back as not many people is aware of this new opening. Even for me, I first get to know about the opening of Food Folks due to the Soup Spoon 1-for-1 promotion that my friend sent me.

1-for-1 Soups from The Soup Spoon

Dinner from The Soup Spoon

The Soup Spoon here only accept the use of Kopitiam card but not the Soup Spoon Membership card. I takeaway back the soup for my family for dinner.

Lunch from Shi Hui Yuan

Beside 1-for-1 promotion, there were also lots of opening special deal from the other stalls. For Shi Hui Yuan, their Braised Chicken Drumstick Hor Fun with Plant Based Giant Wanton cost $6.80 instead of the usual $7.70. I tried it and I quite like it but if I were to pay the usual price, I would felt that it's a bit too pricey.

Back then, Cream and Cone was also having the 1-for-1 promotion and I really wanted to try their ice cream. So I sent to my friend HL and waited till it was her back-to-office week before we met up for lunch as well as this sweet treat. I had the Pulut Hitam ice cream with Bandung waffle cone while she had the Mango Passionfruit ice cream with Milo Waffle Cone. Nice and refreshing.

Food Folks was opened with a locally-focused concept, beside F&B establishments, they also retails local products. In fact, over 70% of over 120 retail brands available at Food Folks are actually home-grown and many of the F&B stalls are actively managed by local food entrepreneurs and founders. I managed to replenish my snack corners with some interesting snacks.

Among the snacks I bought was this interesting local brand called Fossa Chocolate. This Lychee Dragon Fruit contains 75% Dark Chocolate and contains big chunks of dried chewy lychee and dragon fruit inside. Even Meow Meow, the adorable Food Folks Mascot approves this nutrients-filled delicious treat which one could chomp it down without feeling guilty at all. It's also vegan and gluten-free. This flavour is an exclusive collaboration between Food Folks and homegrown artisan chocolate maker Fossa Chocolate thus it can only be bought here.

[Journey to the West] Nando's Official Opening at Jurong Point

My family and I made a journey to the West after work for Nando's has officially opened its latest outlet at Jurong Point today! It's a great news for those living in the West like us because we no longer need to travel to the Central or East area for our favourite Nando's Meal.

I went over by myself while hubby fetched my girl from home to join me. Good thing I spotted the Nando's signboard indicating that they are opened just below Golden Village meaning it's located at the Old Wing. Jurong Point is a super big mall with the old wing and new wing so this information is useful to me.

There was already a small queue forming outside and I got into the queue before hubby and my girl reached and joined me. I love the colourful and vibrant vibes this new outlet gives.

Ordering of food was seamless and contactless using the QR code pasted on each table. We ordered the new dishes that are on the menu and these new dishes are only available at this Jurong Point outlet!

My JP Summer Bowl which is delicious and filling. It comes with the spiced rice mix with corn, cherry tomatoes, kidney beans, roasted pumpkin and their boneless thigh chicken meat which I ordered in the Lemon & Herb flavour. For my drink, I had the Bottomless RUBRO peach tea which is refillable.

Hubby had the 1/4 chicken in Honey & Soy PERi-PERi sauce and we were expecting it to be sweet like honey throughout but It taste sweet in the beginning and ends with a little spicyness in the mouth. We later found out that this sauce ranks right in the middle of the Nando's spicy meter. Quite a pleasant surprise. Also ordered their RUBRO bubble tea and chose Aloe Vera bites instead of the normal pearls. Love this drink which is so nice and refreshing.

We had an enjoyable dinner. The service staff were prompt and friendly. We will definitely be back again next time when we are shopping at Jurong Point just to eat the special dishes that are only available here!

[SUNDAY AT Clementi] Bober Tea Opening Special + KFC Ohayo Porridge

The iconic Giant Bober Tea Sculpture outside their latest outlet in Clementi

I have many favourite bubble tea brands and Bober Tea is one of them. Whenever I went to Bukit Panjang Plaza Shopping Centre, I would definitely grabbed a cup of Bober Tea before heading home. So I was so happy to learn that they are opening up another outlet at Clementi which is even closer to home now.

We chose the Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk ~
Super Cute Bear Cup!

As part of their Opening Special promotion, they held a giveaway for 5 days whereby the first 100 customers visiting can redeem either a 360ml Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk or 360ml Roasted Oolong Milk Tea on the house! Shared this with my friend in Clementi and together we met up on this Sunday morning to redeem it.

KFC Ohayo Porridge for Breakfast

After getting our drinks, we went to have KFC for our breakfast. Tried the KFC Ohayo Porridge which is a new item on their menu. Similar to the KFC Original Recipe Porridge, whole pieces of chicken fillet chunks were used in the porridge. The only difference is the topping which now includes seaweed and sesame seed seasoning. Stirring in the Furikake added a new flavour to the porridge. Although I prefer the Original Recipe Porridge, I still enjoy having this bowl of hot and comforting Ohayo porridge as my breakfast.

[STAY HOME] Lunch with Dr.Oetker Pizza + Uncle Saba's Poppadoms + Hearty Spices Turmeric Latte Spice Mix

On days when we don't feel like cooking or going out, having some ready-made pizza in the freezer comes into good use. We had the Mozzarella Cheese and Cherry Tomatoes pizza from Dr.Oetker for our stay home lunch on one of the Sundays.

Just bought this Mistral 32L electric oven not long ago when it was on sale for less than $90 and this is the first time using it. If I had got it earlier during the circuit breaker period, I probably would have been a home baker now. Hehe. Just kidding. Bought it as I didn't want to be restricted when it comes to baking and hoping to try baking some cookies and pastries in future too. For this pizza, we simply heat it up in the oven for about 10 minutes and out comes a yummy and delicious meal for the family.

What we liked about the pizza from Dr.Oetker is how thin and crispy the crust is, we can hear the crunchy sound with every bite. We also love having cheese and juicy tomatoes as our toppings for pizza. In fact, my girl even finished two slices all by herself. Gonna stock up on the other flavours to try out too.

Sometimes back during the National Day period, I pre-ordered 3 cans of the limited edition chilli crab poppadoms from Uncle Saba. Unlike the usual potato chips that I'm so used to, poppadoms are actually plant based snacks made from lentils. It's a healthier snack to munch on as it's made with more protein, fibre, have less carbs, less saturated fats and is cholesterol free with no trans-fat and MSG!

These ready-to-eat poppadoms are also Halal-certified and suitable for those on a vegan and gluten-free diet. I find that the chilli crab taste is not strong enough. Probably will try the Sweet Chilli flavour as recommended by my friend.

I'm a spice lover and after learning about the many benefits of Hearty Spices Turmeric Latte Spice Mix, I just have to order it online to try it out. Hearty Spices Turmeric Latte Spice Mix is formulated with 7 different spices that helps us to enhance our digestion, improve immunity and regulates our blood sugar, just to name a few. The 7 spices includes Turmeric, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Fennel, Ginger, Black Pepper and Saffron.

I love how it comes in a simple zip-lock packaging and has all the necessary information such as the preparation method and benefits all stated on the packaging itself. Turning this into my favourite drink is easy too. Simply pour 240 ml of my favourite milk into the saucepan and add 0.5 teaspoon of the Turmeric Latte Mix to the heated milk. Stirred for another 2 to 3 minutes and this hot, golden milk will be ready to be served!

Much to my surprise, the taste of the spice was so mild and not overpowering at all, I can still enjoy my milk and knowing that it now comes with so much added goodness to it. My girl also tried adding some of the turmeric latte spice mix to her cold milk and although it doesn't mix in as well, she could still drink it easily. Both mummy and daughter's favourite drink now.

[SATURDAY AT Jem®] Lunch at Pepper Lunch + CHICHA San Chen

It's 15 Years of Sizzling Goodness for Pepper Lunch and they've came up with an online game as well as an event to reward their dearest fans. Happened to get to know this from Partipost.

Are you READY, STEADY? - SPOT THE DIFFERENCE GAME

For this game, one simply have to find all 15 differences within the time limit to stand a chance to win S$50 Pepper Lunch Vouchers! Both Hui Lin and I tried this game on our mobile and 14 was the maximum score we could get. Even with that, we still got a reward - Free Mashed Potato Side Dish & Soft Drink, redeemable with order of any main course at the Pepper Lunch Restaurants. Just to share, I tried playing this game online again on my laptop and I could quite easily get the 15/15 score! Click on this link to launch the game. Since we got this reward, we arranged to meet up for lunch at the nearest Pepper Lunch restaurant at Jem.

READY, STEADY, UNLOCK! EVENT

This is actually my first time dining in at this Pepper Lunch Restaurant outlet. We queued up to order and pay for our food first before we entered the restaurant to find our seat.

For this event, every main dish purchased will receive 1 sticker and 1 sticker card will be issued per transaction. My family ordered 3 main dishes and thus we received 3 stickers to be pasted on our sticker card. We just need 5 more stickers to complete the sticker card with 8 stickers by 30 September 2020.

After completion, one can pre-register the game card online to secure a chance to win big prizes such as iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy S20 and more at their Live Virtual Unlock Event happe
ning on 19 September and 3 October. The unlock chances is limited to the first 300 successful submission only. We felt that it's faster if we accumulate our stickers, thus I've passed the 3 stickers to my friend to continue the sticker card.

Here's what we ordered for our lunch:

For him: Jumbo Beef Pepper Rice. The before and after cooked photo.

For me: Cheesy Omelette with Chicken (Creamy Brown Sauce). This photo was taken by my Little Missy who was sitting opposite me. She took a few shots and this last shot was really decent and nice. Secretly training her from young to be my photographer next time! Heehee.

For her: Chicken and Cheese Sausage Pasta, she really loves the cheese sausage.

It was overall a satisfying and good meal. I think the last I had pepper lunch was at their express outlet in Clementi Food Fare which was so long ago.

After lunch, I went to collect my shopback deal for CHICHA San Chen. This was also my first time trying out their bubble tea as I saw many good feedbacks from my friends and was curious.

What is so unique about them is probably this hot tea dispenser machine and from what I gathered, they had about 5 - 6 staff at this outlet. An indication that business is very good here.

They even won this Superior Taste Award in 2019! High expectation. I placed my order and I was a bit shocked that there was like 30+ number in front of me!! Oh my gosh.

This is what I got - Fresh Milk with Brown Sugar Boba at S$4.50 (U.P. S$5) after a good long 30 minutes wait! The boba was still warm for the first few sip. Regretted not buying more cups and buying their tea series since have to wait so long. Fresh milk with brown sugar boba taste so so only and not worth the long wait. Hope they have other deals soon, would like to try their Dong Ding tea series too.

[Post-National Day Holiday] The Coconut Club and Bober Seasonal Drinks + Giveaway

As National Day falls on a Sunday which is a rest day, the next day being a Monday became a post National Day Holiday! It was a last minute decision to meet up with the RKM couple at The Coconut Club for lunch. In fact, even until noon time, we were still asking one another whether is the meet up confirmed while still preparing at home.

We headed out swiftly as we were quite hungry and luckily we managed to find a parking lot nearby as we spotted the long queue forming outside The Coconut Club. The crayola blue of Ann Siang House and the chandelier brings a very royal feeling to the whole place where The Coconut Club was located at.

We joined the queue and waited for our turn. While we were outside, I took a peek inside the restaurant and saw how lovely the whole place is. I could also smell the fragrance of the coconut rice! Can't wait to enter the restaurant as we were starving and feeling hot outside.

Finally, it's our turn, my family ordered the Chicken Leg Nasi Lemak Set, Kosong Set, and a complimentary kids set (for kids 5 years old and below), Sambal Kang Kong, Chendol and a glass of Bandung. We asked for the chendol to be served first to fill up our empty stomach. Their chendol was simple, nice and sweet with lots of red beans. That explains the positive reviews online. Hubby loves the Sambal Kang Kong and said that it was not too spicy, just nice for his liking.

It took quite a while for the nasi lemak to be served, probably have to cook the rice again. Good thing that we went with friends so we got to chat and catch up while waiting. The nasi lemak rice was served hot and fluffy with the nice aroma of the coconut milk, I love the sambal chili too. For $15+ it was really an atas plate of nasi lemak, I guess it comes with the nice ambiance afterall. The difference between the kosong nasi lemak and the kids meal is just an egg.

After our hearty lunch, I told hubby that I wanted to try the Bober Seasonal drinks which they launched just for National Day and they were having a 1-for-1 promotion. The nearest outlet was at Bendemeer and so we drove over there.

It's not hard to spot the Bober Tea shop even though this was my first time there. Look at that gigantic bober tea outside the shop, how could anyone missed it? The seasonal drinks on the 1-for-1 promotion were for Butterscotch Milk Tea and Caramel Popcorn Milk Tea. I super love the Caramel Popcorn Milk Tea but as we didn't finish the popcorn in time, they all turned soggy when mixed into the milk tea.

Ending this post with a collaboration with Bober tea on an Instagram giveaway I'm currently running till 28 August 2020. Check it out here and join for a chance to win 2 cups of Bober tea of your choice. Two winners will be selected. Good Luck!
