A group of about 25 participants in their orange top emerged from the crowd and burst into a spontaneous performance which caught the diners at Lau Pa Sat by surprise.

Over at New York City, the iconic Times Square was chosen as the flashmob location. In Singapore, Lau Pa Sat served as a true Singapore landmark for the flashmob to take place. Singapore is often described as Asia's culinary capital, thus a food centre is emblematic of the local food landscape and is where Singaporean delights are enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.

Before the participants broke into the energetic dance moves, they froze in positions that depicts acts of kindness to raise awareness of what kindness looks like, and the opportunities for acts of kindness that is around us.

For the very first time, people from all over the world are able to watch the Dance for Kindness event using Periscope, a live video streaming app, which broadcasted snippets of the action from the flashmob locations across 28 countries, via the #DFK2015 hashtag.

At the end of the performance, members of the public were presented with a stalk of yellow gerbera daisy, a symbol of kindness. Thank you!

Kindness is in everyone. The bright and cheerful yellow gerbera daisy represent appreciation and are passed along to kind people every year on the 13th of November which is the World Kindness Day in Singapore. The Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) wants to encourage everyone to start, show and share kindness. Building a gracious society requires everyone's effort to spare a thought for the people around us. SKM is a non-government, non-profit organisation, as well as a registered charity and Institution of Public Character.

XOXO
