[Travel] China Trip Day 6 : Mount Wuyi 武夷山 - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Mount Wuyi has been listed as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site since 1999 for its rich cultural, scenic view and biodiversity values. This is also one of the most memorable place we went to during our 8 days China trip. We took a domestic flight to reach here from Xiamen.

武夷山是联合国确定的世界自然与文化遗产,自古以"奇秀甲东南"著称。今天的行程将包括游山,玩水,看演出。

Jade Dragon Valley (玉龙谷)

We begin the day by climbing the Jade Dragon Valley to view the various waterfalls. It is said to take about 1,000 steps to reach the top. The air here is so fresh, it was a wonderful experience.

The major waterfalls sighted here are Pearl Waterfall, Mulong Waterfall and Homesickness Waterfall.

第一站前往玉龙谷景区,位于武夷山风景区九曲溪上游,以壮观的瀑布群为特色。

When we were really close to the peak of the mountain, we were brought to enter Yulong Cave to view the Yulong Mining Relics. Didn't really take much photos inside as it was very dark inside and I was using my handphone as torch light.

Welcome to an empty tea-house.

Felt so energize after the climb.

Nine-Bend River (九曲溪)

Took a 1 hour 30 minutes bamboo raft ride at this Nine Bends River. Lots of photos on the picturesque scenic of the nine bends and eighteen turns. A pity that it was raining and we were all wet, cold and numb. A little point to take note here is to tip the bamboo rafting uncle well. One raft can accommodate 6 persons and the standard is to pay another RMB 20 each. Of course if you choose not to pay, the uncle will not tell you any stories and you will just ride in silence till you reach the destination. If you just give the tips, not only will the uncle share stories but will also help you take photos. At the fourth bend, there's actually holes on the mountain whereby coffins were kept inside. It's still a mystery of how they did it but scientifically it was mentioned that it could be due to the different water level years ago.

Impression Da Hong Pao (印象大红袍)

At night, we bought the tickets to watch the performance of "Impression Da Hong Pao" which is directed by the renowned China director, Zhang Yimou. This is an outdoor musical performance in which the auditorium of 2,000 audiences is able to rotate 360-degree. Love how they are able to mix the light, colour and strong music with the real landscape as the stage and backdrop. No photos and videos taking allowed but there's still a lot of people holding their cameras up.

There is a strong message that the director wants to convey to the audience through this musical and that is for the modern people to find inner peace. With everything so instantaneous and overload of information, we all need to slow down the city pace and be calm. Where do find a place to keep calm and get rid of the things that are bothering you? The mesmerizing Mount Wuyi is the place to be and while you are here, do enjoy a cup of Da Hong Pao tea.
